What the gurus are saying

This two-part hydrogel mask earns consistent praise for delivering visible radiance and smooth, plump skin by the time it turns transparent, and most reviewers love that it stays put well enough to wear overnight. The catch: it's genuinely a time commitment (3-4 hours minimum), and people with acne, rosacea, eczema or other sensitive conditions may find the heavy occlusion irritating, those with very dehydrated skin also report it sits on top rather than sinking in deeply. Best used as an occasional glow-up before events or travel, not a daily workhorse.

"I've heard a lot of great things about this and I really wanted to try it for myself. It comes in two parts, a bottom and a top, which makes it easier to apply and it fits your face properly with a good grip, it doesn't slide off. You leave it on until it turns transparent, which can take 3 to 4 hours, then peel it off. It has niacinamide, low molecular weight collagen, hyaluronic acid, and galactomyces. It's a brightening mask that also hydrates and helps improve pores. Once you peel it off your skin looks so radiant, rejuvenated, and refreshed. I am very impressed with this."

"I love these Biodance masks. PDRN in skincare isn't really doing anything, but these are really good in general, as long as you're not allergic or irritated by the ingredients. They're really good for reducing water loss and hydrating the skin, and it's impressive how comfortable these masks are to wear. They take some time to dry down into that adherent film, which is really what limits me from doing them as often, since I'm a busy body and can't wait around for it to set. But basically it's just the principle of occlusion and reducing transepidermal water loss. You do see a visible improvement, albeit short-lived, and the following morning your skin is great, provided you tolerated it and it wasn't irritating. This is steep, $69.99 for the 24 pack, but if you already know you like these, it's not too bad of a splurge since they are on the pricier side. They do tend to go on sale on Amazon during the big sales."

"This particular mask goes on like any sort of jelly-like sheet mask, it's a split mask with a top half and a bottom half. As it dries down, it forms this adherent film on the skin surface to really lock in hydration and reduce transepidermal water loss. It doesn't budge, so you can sleep in it. It's actually very comfortable to wear, and when you wake up the following morning, your skin is hydrated and glowy because it's very moisturizing. It has some ingredients in it that really target dark spots, redness, and irritation in general, such as licorice root extract and niacinamide. It has rose water in it, so it has a rose aroma but otherwise doesn't have fragrance. I've actually gone through an entire box of these masks, which really surprised me because I find masks enjoyable to do, but I often kind of slack on doing them. But these are a ton of fun. They are a bit of a time investment, it's not something that you just slap on 15 or 20 minutes before you're going to run out to go to work."
Trying The Viral BioDance Collagen Mask SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO
"The mask doesn't quite cover my mouth, and on my neck it was pretty much useless, they didn't really stay on particularly well, and as it dries down it's kind of like this weird little patch, but I think it looks pretty good, feels hydrated, and I think it looks smoother too. I'm not mad at this mask, it was a good time. Be warned though, there is a possibility that this might be irritating for you, especially given the level of occlusivity, that's quite a bit of occlusion there, and for people with acne prone skin I would say stay away from this. Also if you have rosacea that might aggravate your rosacea, lead to flushing. If you've got periorificial dermatitis, I would say not this. What about atopic dermatitis, eczema on the face, this also could aggravate. Any skin condition could probably be aggravated by something like this, so just be mindful of that, that it may not be the best thing for your skin. But if you're used to doing masks, you enjoy them, especially if you're not sensitive to rose water, I think you might enjoy having this on as you do like a movie marathon on the weekend, or maybe a spa night. I think sleeping in it is doable, it wasn't uncomfortable once it dried down, it wasn't uncomfortable when it was wet, I think it's doable to sleep comfortably in it and not disrupt your sleep."

"I really do like that Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask. It's more of a sheet mask that dries down, you can wear it overnight, it stays in place, and then you take it off. That definitely did perk up my skin. I put it on nice and thick on my cheeks so we'll see."
Amazon Prime Day Skincare Deals I Actually Recommend
"I absolutely adore this brand's film forming masks. They take advantage of occlusion therapy, where you apply a hydrating moisturizing product to the skin and cover it with a dressing, in this case the mask, which maximally locks in hydration and allows for penetration of ingredients in a more focused and effective manner. That said, this approach can be more irritating. It looks like a typical hydrogel sheet mask, but it dries down and forms a semi-transparent adherent film, like a mask adhered to your face. It looks bizarre but it's very comfortable to wear and stays in place. It does take a bit of time to dry down, so you need to be patient with it, which is one of the reasons I don't do these more often, but whenever I do, I always wake up the next morning with skin that's hydrated, plump, and dewy. It's an excellent way to calm and soothe the skin and get targeted improvement in overall skin tone and clarity. This particular variant contains ceramides for barrier repair, niacinamide which targets redness and discoloration and helps the moisture barrier, licorice root compounds to calm and reduce redness, and a variety of forms of hyaluronic acid to improve water content in the skin's outermost layer. You can comfortably wear it to bed and it stays in place all night."

"If anyone's ever tried one of these, Biodance is the goat when it comes to hydrogel mask. I was a bit skeptical, but I remember using this overnight once and waking up, and I think it was the best my skin had looked in a really long time. It basically starts out as a white mask, it melts into a clear, and then your skin is just so hydrated. It's fragrance-free, super gentle on the skin, and really helps deliver those ingredients deeper into the skin. This is my favorite mask, I actually use this in the office post-procedurally for people too."

"The other nuance I will say about these Biodance masks is if you sleep in a very cold environment like I do, like 65 degrees, it'll feel kind of freezing on your skin by the end of the night. But I was shocked at how good and hydrated my skin looked in the morning when I peeled these off. I was completely blown away. So they can be a bit chilly if you sleep in a cold environment, but they are really really nice."

"I actually like the Biodance masks the best. I've used them all. I've actually gone through all of my Biodance masks, so I need to reorder. You basically layer an occlusive feature on top of your hydration and you are now a superhero. I do not think these have any long-term benefits. That's why this is my exceptional case use scenario. Definitely a treat yourself. Definitely not necessary. But you feel great afterwards. I did actually use the Biodance mask and I slept with it overnight and it actually started like this color and then it became clear which I thought was pretty cool. It's a top selling mask on Amazon."

"These are probably the most hydrating, healing masks you can find for damaged skin, but they're more expensive than I realized, really it's four of them for about 20 dollars, so 5 dollars a mask. Not something you would use every day, but if you really are in a pinch and your skin barrier is damaged, I would definitely have these on hand. I use them post-procedurally in my office sometimes."

"My favorite sheet masks, I always get on Amazon. This is the Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask. It's so good. This one's also viral, and for a good reason, honestly. This one says it's hydrating, pore minimizing, and firming. And these are the ones that you can leave on for like 3 to 4 hours. Some people leave them on overnight. I feel like it's just not practical for me to do that necessarily, but if you sleep on your back perfectly, you can try it overnight, I'm sure you'd see great results. For me, 3 to 4 hours is great. I'll just pop this on right after my babies go to sleep for the night. Usually I have like 3 hours or so before I'm ready to sleep. So good."

"Everyone's buying the Biodance collagen mask and wearing it overnight for more than three hours, but I don't think it actually works that way. You put in that much effort and time, but the glow effect is so short term, and during those three hours your skin gets itchy and feels too stuffy. You can try it for fun, but I don't recommend it to my guests."

Viral K-Beauty Tier List: Anua, Biodance, Medicube & More (Brutally Honest)
"This sheet mask is basically, they pour one bottle of the serum into the mask, so when you leave it on for three or four hours, even overnight, you get a lot of hydration. I tried it multiple times but ended up not using it that much because it takes so much effort for such a short glow. It's definitely hydrating but it doesn't last that long, so I don't think I need to invest in it that much. You can try it for fun. Between the many brands that copy this kind of gel mask, Biodance works a little better overall and the sheet feels pretty soft, but I still won't recommend it that much."
Viral K-Beauty vs What Koreans Actually Use: Which is better? And Why?
"This collagen mask has ampoules sealed inside, so you're supposed to leave it on overnight or at least three hours so the collagen really absorbs into your skin. It's definitely worth it right after you use it, but for three hours or even overnight of effort, I think the effect isn't that much, because after about an hour the radiance is just gone. I don't see that much point in it, and it's also expensive."
Olive Young Top 1–3 Products: Overhyped or Actually Worth It?
"You use this overnight for one, two, or three hours, and it's priced about double the other sheet masks. It's worth trying if you haven't, but I just don't like it. I don't end up using it much because you put in all this effort but the effect feels too short, and during the night it feels too stuffy and I just want to get rid of it. Between all the gel masks, this one is number one because the others are unstable, too thin, or not as effective. But I prefer normal sheet masks instead."
12 Viral K-Beauty Products I Regret Buying
"Comparing this to the Medicube mask, I would say this one is a little better. The paper sheet is a little thicker, while the other one is even thinner and turns transparent much faster. This kind of jet mask feels really cooling at first, but that only lasts about thirty minutes, and it is pricey for how little effect it actually has. Some sensitive skin can react to the fermented ingredient in it, and I ended up wanting to scratch after wearing it for two hours. I still think it is worth trying, but I ended up going back to a normal one or two dollar sheet mask that worked totally fine."
10 Viral Korean Beauty Products I REGRET Buying & what you can get instead
"This was so hot online when it released in Korea, all the beauty influencers were selling it, and I bought a lot of it at the time since it was cheaper buying multiple at once. I ended up not using it much, you have to leave it on for over three hours or overnight, and that feels like too much for me since I'm sensitive while sleeping and wake up feeling stuffy. My skin does become more bouncy and hydrated, but that effect doesn't last more than a few days, so the effort feels too small for the result. It doesn't really suck, but I would definitely pick a sleeping mask instead, it's way easier."
TikTok viral skincare, worth the HYPE? My Very HONEST REVIEW | WATCH BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
"This overnight mask is the hottest item out there right now, and it's a bit expensive, but I tried it head to head against a cheaper version and in conclusion I'll just buy the original. It has almost no scent, it stuck to my face well, and after twenty minutes my skin felt much more moisturized. Wearing it overnight is a bit annoying and stuffy since you have it on for so long, so I don't recommend it much if you have oily skin, but if you're over forty with mature skin it's amazing, and if you have dry skin you can use it weekly as a special treatment."
I tried TikTok most viral Korean skincare products…an honest review (Not sponsored)
"This mask is so popular all over TikTok, I like it, but I think it's too nutritious for oily skin, I'd recommend it for normal to dry skin, and if you're over forty it's pretty good, it's good as a gift for your mother too. But it's a different type of mask so keep a few things in mind, it doesn't stick well and drips down so you have to lie down to use it, and it says to leave it on for more than three hours so there's really no choice but to do it while sleeping. Be careful because your nails can tear it when you put it on, and if you want that super glowy look, don't just use the mask alone, it doesn't work that way, you have to do your full routine, serum, moisturizer, then apply this and go to bed. In the morning it really does seal everything in, like a sealing wrap. I woke up more than five times because I felt stuffy sleeping in it. It's a good option for long flights, and it's a bit expensive, I'd recommend doing it every ten days to two weeks, like treating yourself to a facial."

"The collagen here is going to hydrate and plump your skin. It's not going to meaningfully alter fine lines and wrinkles, but it is going to plump up your skin and smooth it out. I did not get those results. My skin actually became dehydrated, inflamed, red, and even actually a little bit bumpy, and quite itchy as well. I actually had a bad reaction to this mask. My skin doesn't love hydrogel masks. There is rose extract in the collagen mask itself, and plant extracts can sometimes have fragrant components to them that can irritate sensitive skin. Rose extract in a toner or toner pad may not flare up my skin, but when you're leaving something in close contact with your skin for prolonged hours, that's going to ramp up the potential for irritation. That's exactly what happened with this mask. I did get very visibly red, irritated skin."

"This mask does make my skin look plump and smooth and a little bit more even and bright, and it feels silky and conditioned on top. But I have to say, I am prone to dehydration, and the fact that this mask is not drenched in that liquidy essence that dives deep into the skin and really replenishes it, it's more something that sits on top of your skin. It's a little bit dry. My skin doesn't feel so great wearing this for more than an hour. My skin starts to feel a little bit dehydrated, a little bit dry. It does infuse with your skin but it kind of sits on top a little bit, just due to the nature of how it's being delivered into the skin. That hydrogel just can't dive in really deep. So my skin chemistry, my dehydration, and this mask, it's not the perfect fit, especially for wearing it longer than an hour."

"This includes four of the really popular Biodance Real Deep Mask hydrogel sheet masks. You know, the one that you leave on overnight and you peel off, revealing really nice dewy glass skin. I love using this especially when I'm traveling. I find that travel, international travel, makes my skin so dry and just jetlagged. And then also before an important event, it's really fun because you're getting your skin really set up for like a nice event looking glowy. Makeup applies really nicely afterwards. There's actually four different types in addition to the pink. There is the Hydrera that's the blue one for hydration. There is the refreshing sea kelp, which is more for oily skin maybe. And then there is the radiant vita niacinamide that is great for brightening. So you get the pink, the blue, the green and the yellow. It's really a quick self-care fix, making someone feel really cared for with that luxury feel without a really super expensive price point."

"This is one that is worth trying and it's one of those things where [...] it provides more of a temporary instant plumping hydrating effect. Long-term, [...] I don't think it's realistic to apply a sheet mask every night, so the benefits last only as long as you use it. But certainly it is a great way to give your skin an instant pick-me-upper right before an event or if you want to sleep in something for that hydration. [...] Peeling it off and revealing that hydrated dewy skin is really fun. [...] Unlike traditional sheet masks, these are hydrogel and you [...] apply them as the last step of your skincare routine. As the hydrogel dries, it becomes from opaque to transparent, enhancing skincare delivery, and then it dries on your skin almost like a peel-off mask, but it takes much longer, usually within four hours or longer, which is why most people sleep in it. The next day when you peel it off, it's really revealing that hydrated plump skin underneath."

"I've used this before. I am a huge fan. There's something really special about this mask. The beauty of this mask is that it's really trapping in those hydrating ingredients, including collagen, really well. I don't know what the technology is on like how it dries up like that, but definitely a game changer. Love doing this like before a big event or like before a big film shoot or something. I think it you just get immediate glass skin."

Skincare SPLURGES: what is really WORTH IT?!
"These hydrogel sheet masks, also known as Biodance, went viral not too long ago. They are great for folks who benefit from added hydration, since the structure of the mask itself acts as an occlusive and really locks in that hydration. However, if you suffer from bacterial based acne, that could give you the exact opposite of what you're looking for, because you're locking in the bacteria."

"I love the formulation, they're like a super thick jelly and they're also in two parts so it fits really well on the face and it doesn't fall off, but did I love it? Not really. I thought it was fine. I won't be repurchasing. I went for Sculpted by Amy instead, I thought it was a better mask."

"Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask is pretty much the one I consistently use the most. This has multi-low molecular collagen, which is quite fundamental in all of these sheet masks, but what makes this one stand out a little extra for me is that this contains also galactomyces ferment filtrate, which is just an ingredient I love, my skin loves it. It just gives my skin that extra complexion enhancing kick. It's full of fabulous ingredients, many of which are predictable such as different weights of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and so on. Each one of these masks contains 1.19 ounces of concentrated serum in it, it's basically more than your regular 1-ounce bottle of serum solidified into mask form. You apply this as an opaque mask as the last step of your skincare routine after you have applied everything else including your moisturizer, [...] and by the morning time this will have completely turned transparent. The morning peel off is so intensely satisfying. It feels as though your skin has sucked the life out of these masks, like everything it had to give it's given, but it's like revealing newborn juicy fresh baby skin. This has been a must for me while I'm dealing with my drier skin but also it's very protective against any strong heating units just sapping my skin."

"Everyone knows this mask from Biodance, their Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask. This is the mask you can use overnight. It starts off opaque and then after 3 to 4 hours it turns completely clear. It's actually really hard for me to keep anything on my face while I'm sleeping because I thrash around and inevitably it will somehow be removed, but this has some great adherence. When I peel it off, pores are gone, things are smooth. It's really quite sticky peeling it off, so it's really important that when I use this I use this over all my other skin care. For now this is one that I still turn to."

"Those areas where it went completely translucent are definitely a little bit glowier than the areas where maybe I should have left it on a little bit longer, but that's not the mask's fault, that's my own impatience. After 3 hours, yeah, I feel great. The skin definitely feels a little firmer, definitely feels plumper, and I can definitely notice the glow. I am very very impressed. There was still some product left to go, so if you leave this on for 4 hours I think you're going to get some next level results. Really really impressed. I don't think you could actually sleep in them, I think they're too delicate, I think by the time that you wake up it'll be all over the place, so I don't think sleeping in it is going to be an option. Some people use them while they're on planes, which absolutely you could do if you're feeling extra bougie and you want to land with that glow up, or you could just do it like me, put it on for 3 hours and then know that you're kind of going to have a guaranteed good skin day at the end of it. I've been really really impressed, I'm going to keep these and use them for those days where I need a little pick me up, maybe I'm doing some extra filming or something and I want to look my skin best. I'm going to keep these on hand, and for like the four pounds per unit that I pay for them, 100%, ding ding ding, 10 out of 10 would recommend. Online you'll see the influencer community generally singing its praises in what I would say is like a sponsored way, lots of paid partnerships and sponsorships with these products, so I wanted to take the time today to put it through its paces in a completely unbiased, sponsorship free way, and I'm here to say honestly, I think it's worthy of the hype."

"I did eventually buy the BioDance one because I was so impressed with the Sun Boon one and it's just not as good. It's a little bit thinner. It almost feels like you have to wear a lot of product underneath it whereas the Sun Boon one is already really juicy when you put it on and then it stays kind of juicy as you wear it versus the BioDance one that just kind of, I don't know. I thought I was going to like it more because it has like the galactomyces in it and everything that brightens your skin. I just didn't. I didn't have that same effect after I wore it overnight. Not as into this."

"I love collagen masks that you leave on your skin, but the Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask is one I avoid. There's something in these, in all the versions from this brand, that triggers my rosacea and sensitizes my skin, and I don't seem to have that issue with any other brand. [...] I've had issues with lower molecular weight collagen before, and that's [...] the only connection I can make, though I'm not sure why since I use it in other things fine. "Over night one flared up so bad again with that hydrolyzed or nano collagen and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid. I really wanted to like this. But even if minus the redness, even if this didn't make me red and irritated, I just don't think the results were good enough. Three to 4 hours for a mask to make you look a little bit shiny with lights on. Then in real life, you step out into the world and your skin just looks normal. And then let alone overnight, let alone 8 hours with this mask on, struggling to sleep because you want the results, it's just not worth it. I don't think you get that deep level of hydration that a lot of people think they're getting from these masks. Just use a moisturizer."

"The collagen really, really does plump out your skin. You don't have to keep these on overnight, you can literally keep them on for about three hours, which I know is still a really long time. What these are good for is if you have an event to go to, if you're going on a night out and you just want to look extra plump, you want your makeup to sit really well, or maybe you're on a plane. I don't like doing skincare on a plane, but this will stop your face from drying out, and it dries completely clear. I personally don't like them for my rosacea because they triggered something in it, but everybody else I see knows these and loves these, and I think one thing you have to do when you review products is know when a product is good regardless of whether you like it or not, and it's just nice to give these a go. You see something so much online, it's nice to give them a go. These actually came in one of the windows with another set of sheet masks, so you get a lot."

[...] I've had issues with lower molecular weight collagen before, and that's [...] the only connection I can make, though I'm not sure why since I use it in other things fine. It's an interesting product, I just avoid it for my sensitive skin."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
