What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen's gel texture and fast absorption win over those with oily skin or humid climates, though gurus split sharply on whether the formula suits everyone. Several experts praise how lightweight it feels and its lack of white cast, with some calling it an ideal primer-like base; others find it too shiny or note that the fragrance and alcohol (added to cover the sunscreen's smell) don't work for sensitive skin. The eye-stinging reports and essential oils are dealbreakers for some, particularly those already struggling with irritation, so patch-testing matters here if you have sensitive eyes.

"I was really excited because it is such a nice hydrating formula and I thought oh this could be so nice especially for winter when my skin is a little bit drier but no I couldn't. The second it got near my eyes it stung like crazy. So if you're someone who's really really really sensitive to sunscreens and you've been curious I would not recommend it. It is extremely hydrating, like it gives a shine, like it really gives a shine, but the eye stinging is a dealbreaker for me. I would recommend the Sun Relief sunscreen over this any day."

"It looks beautiful, it rubs in very easily, there's no white cast. But this product is a zero out of 10. Why would you put in an irritant into a sunscreen when you're about to go out and have harsh UV smack you in the face?"

"It feels so nice on the skin, but this is definitely a little bit shiny for my liking. You can definitely see the texture on my forehead that I'm struggling with and the breakouts now. If you're someone who has dry skin I feel like you would love this one, but dewy skin not my thing. That's just it's overdoing it just a bit."

"The ginseng moist sun serum is another amazing sunscreen I've not seen enough people talk about. If you are super oily and you hate layering sunscreen throughout the day and reapplying every two hours because you just feel like other sunscreens get greasy, it sits on your skin, makes you look oily, then you should try this. This is super lightweight. There's an SPF 50+ PA++++ with 30% ginseng root extract which is great antioxidant to help fight free radical damage along with the sun protection, and the arbutin will kind of help even everything out."

"This contains ginseng extract which has long been used in Korean beauty for its hydrating properties and this also contains niacinamide which has amazing anti-inflammatory properties as well as its skin brightening properties. This really is a stunner. I was really surprised to try this out and it really blew me away for how quickly it absorbs, how hydrating it is, how lightweight it is, and my skin just absolutely loves this."

"I'm getting the Beauty of Joseon serum, the SPF serum, and I'm expecting I'm going to like that a lot."

"It's more gel and lightweight than the Round Lab Birch Juice sunscreen. [...] There is some denatured alcohol in here that really helps to keep this incredibly light. It dries super fast on the skin, which is incredibly appealing for a lot of folks. They're also using some essential oils, which I've already covered, not an ingredient for me. I just kind of put this in the middle of the pack because I respect why people like this. I know a lot of people I've given away a lot of my sample products and [...] I've given this sunscreen away a lot, and all I ever hear back is how great it is."

"This release was met with so much criticism because a lot of what people including myself were enjoying about Beauty of Joseon is that it was a very low irritant option, they avoided fragrance and essential oils, and then they came out with this sunscreen with essential oils in it, which was very confusing. It took me months to work up the nerve to try it, but I got it in and I love it so much. The reason I love it so much is because it's almost like the perfect primer, it's that new formula so there is truly no white cast, but it has that kind of silicone like feel, it feels like a primer. You can apply two full finger lengths of this to your face and get SPF 50 plus PA plus plus plus plus coverage and the most beautiful primer effect as well. I'm somebody with a bit more sensitivity and this is going great for me. It really just smells like nothing, it's bizarre, it smells like nothing. Yes, this is my favorite product from Beauty of Joseon."

"I paid $21 for this and you're going to get 50 ml which is about 1.7 oz. When I hear serum I think something quite runny, but this is very oily. When you put it on the skin it's very shiny and radiant at first, and it's going to stay like that for a couple minutes but it does dry down to where it's more of like a satin type of finish. So it's not completely oily oily but keep that in mind because sometimes skincare products don't play well together depending on what the base is. You might put this on with one of your favorite moisturizers and notice that the moisturizer starts to pill up on your skin. Usually to avoid that you want to either get a couple minutes in between your products so one dries down before you put the other one on, or try to use products that all have similar bases. Me personally I didn't need a moisturizer underneath this sunscreen because I felt that it was moisturizing enough for the climate I'm in."

"This one does contain fragrance and alcohol and I still like it. It's the Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Sun Serum. Beauty of Joseon said they included fragrance in it to cover up the scent of the alcohol. There's not a ton of alcohol in here, but I think they did mention somewhere that they're going to make a fragrance-free version of this, so I'd be all over it because I really enjoy the texture of this one. It's got a gel texture, so I think it's probably ideal for oily skin types or for very humid weather. The scent isn't terribly strong. It's got Juniper and Jasmine oil, and it dissipates pretty quickly. The gel texture is really lovely. If they come out with a fragrance-free version, I'd be all over it."

"They have a ginseng sunscreen serum. I love everything about it except the scent. It's very strong. So keep that in mind."

"This isn't bad but I don't like fragrance in my sunscreens. I can definitely smell the aroma to this."
