What the gurus are saying

Gurus are uniformly enthusiastic about this serum. The consensus centers on its impressive hydration and soothing power despite its thin gel texture, reviewers repeatedly emphasize it hydrates deeply without feeling heavy or creamy. Panthenol and green tea emerge as the hero ingredients for calming inflammation and supporting a compromised barrier. It's flagged as especially suitable for sensitive, acne-prone, and dehydrated skin, and plays well with active treatments like tretinoin. The only minor note is that it works best layered with other products rather than as a standalone moisturizer.

"The calming serum is a great combination of green tea and panthanol. Green tea is great for soothing inflammation on the skin, the calming aspect of this particular product. It also brings a healthy dose of antioxidants into the skin. And then they're using panthanol which not only hydrates the skin, it helps to address dehydration symptoms on the skin but it's also barrier strengthening. Panthanol helps to support the lipid layer, aka your skin barrier, and that's what helps to hold hydration in place and keep hydration on your skin in a long lasting way. So it's a really hydrating serum, but it's also a soothing serum as well. This is great if your skin is lacking hydration, if you're dealing with dehydration, or you're looking for a gentle serum, something to just support general skin health, your general skin barrier, some antioxidant care, some anti-inflammatory care, some general soothing without really harsh actives."

"The calming Serum is panthenol and mugwort. It's incredibly hydrating. It's got this beautiful gel texture that not only hydrates but also soothes the skin. Mugwort is a traditional Korean ingredient, an herb that really brings some anti-inflammatory benefits to the skin and can reduce some redness."
Deep Hydration 💦 | Panthenol Faves!
"The Beauty of Joseon Calming Serum contains 5% panthenol as well as 50% green tea and 30% mugwort. The very first time I tried the serum a few years ago I fell so madly in love with it because it was so incredibly hydrating for my skin. Panthenol 5% I know it doesn't sound like a lot but it really is that effective range that helps to really hydrate the skin and fight the transepidermal water loss while also strengthening the skin barrier. That's exactly what my skin needs because I do have chronically dehydrated skin and my barrier is always just a little bit deficient. I was so surprised the serum was able to do that without being heavy, without being creamy, without being rich. It really shocked me at how hard it went for my skin because it doesn't look like it would be that hydrating, it doesn't look like it would be that impressive, but if you have dehydration, you need a lot of replenishment for your skin, you need your barrier to be taken care of but it can't be creamy, it can't be rich, this is the one. So so so impressive, really really hydrating, a great thin gel type of serum texture that absorbs deep into the skin."

"This is the Beauty of Joseon Calming Serum. This is one I've actually used one of their serums already. You can see I've used quite a bit of this one because it's beautiful under makeup. The good thing about serums is they are packed with things that really benefit your skin, hydrating ingredients. Serums are super, super hydrating, and unlike some thicker moisturizers, it is absorbed completely into the skin. We get all that goodness, the hydration goodness of the ingredients we choose to have in our serum, but it doesn't hang around on the skin. There's no layer."

"I've been using this quite a bit when I feel like I just need a little bit more moisture. This has made a really really big difference. This is the green tea and panoli serum. I remember looking up what are the things that I can use with Tretinoin, like product or ingredient combinations that are okay, so this is a really nice hydrating calming serum. I use this first on my skin which makes the Tretinoin a little bit easier to spread a smaller amount on the skin."

"The calming serum, the green one, is basically for someone who has sensitive skin or skin that is acne prone. Panthenol is a skin scaling and skin soothing ingredient, completely water based. So even if you have active acne, acne prone skin, general sensitive skin, eczema prone skin, the green one is for you."

"This particular serum from Beauty of Joseon has Tea Leaf water which probably has some anti-inflammatory compounds in it, it has artemesia extract which is anti-inflammatory, panthenol and glycerin are hydrating, allantoin is anti-inflammatory, Coix lacryma-jobi seed extract is very hydrating, licorice root compound is good for redness and hyperpigmentation, sodium hyaluronate good for hydration. On the back of my hand it feels really nice and hydrating, no fragrance."
