What they liked

  • Formulated for acne-prone skin

What they flagged

  • Oxidizes quickly, yellows over time
  • Leaves oily residue, especially in warm months
  • Pricey for a 4% vitamin C formula

What the gurus are saying

This serum arrives already showing signs of vitamin C oxidizing, and the low 4% concentration means it may not tackle hyperpigmentation as effectively as higher-potency formulas. One expert found it left an oily residue that felt too heavy, especially in warmer months, and questioned whether the price matched the results; however, the gentler strength does lower irritation risk, which may appeal to those with sensitive skin or trouble tolerating other vitamin C serums. Another reviewer praised the formula for acne-prone skin, noting the witch hazel and salicylic acid focus.

"I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of the Banish Dark Spot Corrector Serum due to the slight oiliness it left on my skin and the quite high price point for what I perceive to be a rather average Vitamin C Serum. I also don't think it will be very effective at targeting hyperpigmentation given that it has a low concentration of Vitamin C, although there might be some improvement with continuous and regular use."

"The Banish Vitamin C Dark Spot Serum is really nice. This one's geared towards acne prone skin types. It's got witch hazel in it, salicylic acid, rose hip, and jojoba, so it's kind of different but definitely focused towards acne prone skin."
