What the gurus are saying

Gurus are divided, but safety concerns dominate the conversation. Multiple reviewers cite FDA recalls, benzene contamination detected in batches, and reported sunburn failures, raising questions about product reliability and transparency. A smaller contingent appreciates its dry, non-greasy application and argues any sunscreen used consistently beats none. The core tension is whether Banana Boat's accessibility justifies its documented quality and safety issues.

"I read the other day about a couple people, well, it was probably a list of like eight or nine people have been using this Banana Boat sunscreen and all got burned. So, I'm not totally certain. There could be some places are still selling these sunscreens. So, do your due diligence when you're buying it because it's nothing to mess around with. You don't want to get burned."

"Banana Boat, all of the sunscreens that they found Benzene in. I believe on a CVS shelf of 200 different sunscreens Benzene was tested and found in 78 of them, which ended up being around over 30% of the sunscreens sold by CVS online and in the store containing some amount of benzene which was not disclosed."
This One Release Had Me Questioning This Brand 🤦🏼‍♀️ The Ultra Violette Sunscreen Scandal
"Banana Boat SPF 50 came in at 26. These are pretty low scores. You're still better using sunscreen than nothing. But when you're thinking you're getting 50 protection you're putting on 5. It's almost like what's the point there is a point. You're better off having 5 than nothing. But when you think you're getting really strong protection, that's not what you're getting."

"It doesn't matter if it's Banana Boat or luxury kinds, just put sunscreen on. Chemical filters, mineral filters, just wear your sunscreen whatever is going to make you wear it, use that. I can always tell when somebody uses their sunscreen and has been doing so diligently because they come in with beautiful looking skin every single time. They're not as concerned about the other things because their skin has just been protected. Glowing skin, it always glows when they use sunscreen. Less pigmentation, less deeper lines. Your collagen is just being preserved at such a higher rate than if you're not using sunscreen."

"I love the banana boat sunscreen for my body. I like this because it goes on really really dry, it's not greasy at all, it doesn't stay greasy feeling, it doesn't make your clothes feel like they're sticking to you. It's really a great sunscreen. It's fragrance free and it's dry feeling."
