  • Gentle enough for sensitive skin
  • Tea tree and comfort leaf target bacteria and redness
  • AHA and BHA suitable for daily use

What they flagged

  • May be too mild for active acne

What the gurus are saying

This treatment's gentleness is both its strength and its limitation. The blend of tea tree, comfort leaf, and exfoliating actives can help calm breakouts and reduce bacteria without irritating sensitive skin, making it a solid starting point for those new to acne treatment. However, those already using stronger actives may find it doesn't deliver enough; it works best if you have breakout-prone, sensitive skin and are looking for something mild to begin with, rather than a step up from more active formulations.

"The ingredients look nice and this is badged as being a super gentle blemish treatment so it's not going to cause any redness, sensitivity, or irritation, but over time it'll minimize any breakouts and congestion that you have in the skin. It's got a touch of tea tree which has been used for millennia to cure breakouts, and it's also got some comfort leaf in here which can act in a similar though different way to sulfur and kind of minimize acne-causing bacteria on the skin, reduce inflammation, and also tackle redness. So I think this has definitely got ingredients in here which are going to deliver. But my biggest concern with this is it might just be too gentle. I [...] think you need to offset that with not going for something that's so gentle you barely get any results. It's finding that middle ground. If I look at the ingredients, I think this would be a step back for me in terms of my own journey with acne because I'm already using products and ingredients that are a little bit more active and actually deliver without causing me too much irritation. But if you've got a breakout and you have super sensitive skin and you kind of don't know where to begin, I think this could be a really great product."

"The Spot the Difference Blemish Treatment is obviously to help fight against blemishes and honestly looking at the ingredients, breakouts as well if you're breakout prone. [...] We have four-terpineol which is the main active ingredient found in tea tree, which I personally love for breakouts and my rosacea as well, not in its purest form but formulated into product, as well as antioxidant properties it helps with breakouts. So we have an AHA and BHA in here as well, gentle enough to help exfoliate on a daily basis, fighting whiteheads, blackheads, texture, and sebaceous filaments, and then niacinamide as well if you're particularly oily, that's going to help with that excess sebum production and in turn can help your pores look much smaller, appear much smaller. [...] It smells very tea tree."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
