What the gurus are saying

Experts who tested it found the retinaldehyde formulation gentle enough for the eye area without irritation, and noted the cream's thicker texture helps prevent the formula from migrating into the eye itself, which matters since getting retinol actives into the eye isn't safe. The main takeaway: this is one of the few retinol-type products considered appropriate to use directly on eyelid skin, making it a solid choice for those wanting to treat fine lines there.

"I'm currently using retinaldehyde around my eyes. With Aven retinaldehyde, I used a pump bottle of the retinaldehyde eye cream and when I finished it up, I had a full size bottle of the retinaldehyde 0.1 intensive and I was like, I'm going to go rogue here and just use it under my eyes, around my eyes, to my upper eyelids. And I honestly don't find it to be irritating at all. The biggest difference I have noticed between the facial product and the true eye cream product is that the eye cream product is a little thicker and is less likely to run into your eye. I have noticed that, which you don't want to get that in your eye, obviously."

"Don't put it on your eyelid skin unless you're using a retinol eye cream or a retinaldehyde eye cream like Aven."
