What the gurus are saying

This non-foaming gel cleanser gently cleanses and soothes irritation with oat and feverfew, earning recommendations from dermatologists and skincare educators for sensitive, irritated, or barrier-compromised skin, including post-procedure use. The hydrating texture doesn't strip and has proven effective even for combination skin, despite its lack of foam. If your skin runs oily, this formula will probably feel too heavy for your needs.

"The Aveeno Calm Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser can be used morning or evening. It's a silky creamy cleanser formulated with oat extract and feverfew to soothe and hydrate while gently removing impurities. It's not foaming and is designed to reduce visible redness with continued use. It's really best for that red, blotchy, irritated, sensitive skin. It's also very helpful for post-procedure care or barrier repair routines for any type of sensitive compromised skin. The key ingredients here are colloidal oatmeal, feverfew extract, and glycerin."

"I talk about Aveeno all the time on my channel, I feel like they have really simple but good formulated products, particularly their Calm and Restore line, they did such a good job with the formulas, making them feel really innovative and luxurious but for a really good price point. Whenever my skin is really sensitive and freaking out and I need to restart my skincare routine, I love using the nourishing oat cleanser. It's a little bit deceiving in a positive way because the cleanser doesn't actually froth up on the skin, it just kind of feels like a gel, but every time I've used it, it cleanses my skin really well while doing it very gently, and it's ideal for anyone really struggling with skin sensitivity and irritation. The oat in this is really the primary ingredient to help combat that sensitivity, and when people are struggling with really stripped dry skin, particularly during the winter months, this is almost always the cleanser that I end up recommending."

The BEST Cleansers of 2022!
"This cleanser is so deceivingly good. I remember the first time I used it I was like, oh my gosh, it doesn't froth up, I don't know if it's really doing anything to my skin, it's just a very hydrating gel formula. But when I felt my skin afterwards I was like, oh my God, my skin is clean, it feels super hydrated, it did its job. I think this is the most affordable cleanser on this list. I do think it's best for if you have dry or dehydrated skin, if you have oily skin I don't think this will be a good match for you at all, but it's a really great formula. It features oats, which helps to calm sensitivity, and the experience speaks for itself because it is lovely. If you're someone who's wanting to save money on your skincare routine, I would highly recommend this one, because I've consistently used it, it's a really really good product."
The BEST Skin Care Routine for $50
"A really good water based cleanser that I recommend is the Aveeno Calm and Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser. I fell in love with this one a while ago because it does such a good job of gently cleansing the skin while still properly removing as much as it needs to and not stripping your moisture barrier. I personally have combination to oily skin and this cleanser has worked so well for me regardless of when my skin is dry or when it's oily. It lasts a good amount of time because it's a good size, plus it's amazing for sensitive skin."

"There's the Aveeno Calm + Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser, which is one of my recent favorites. It also works well for dry skin but still cleanses the skin well."
Reacting to My 4 YEAR Old Skin Care Routine
"One of my favorite cleansers is the Aveeno Calm and Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser, because of how gentle it is. This one does a good job of not impairing the moisture barrier or overly stripping it, while still feeling like you're getting a good cleansing but hydrating experience."

"For the Calm and Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser, this is a great gentle cleanser. I reviewed it in the past, and now you can get a refill on Amazon which is less expensive than repurchasing the bottles."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
