What the gurus are saying

This cleanser stands out for feeling noticeably gentler than typical Korean cleansers, with a fun texture. Gurus split on the hype: some rate it highly, while others see it as genuinely nice but overhyped, a cleanser that's lovely to use but doesn't reshape your routine. You only need a small amount mixed with water, making it efficient and cost-effective.

"This mochi cleanser is still all over social media, so I bought it from Olive Young Korea to make sure it wasn't fake. It looks kind of fun because it's chewy, but I don't see the point of it. Even though the color doesn't change, I'm giving this one a C. If you're removing that much makeup you need an oil based cleanser anyway, or you have to double cleanse every day and add a foam cleanser, so I just don't like this kind of product when they turn it into a toy."

"These rice mochi cleansers are really irresistible eye candy, but they also really appeal to my whole love for rice based cleansers. I have the fresh rose hip and the royal blue, and I've thoroughly enjoyed using them as a second cleanser. The rose hip formula is for sensitive skin and it's got some gentle exfoliation, great for summer congestion and buildup. I just love rose hip, I think it's got great anti-aging properties. These cleansers are meant to be first and second cleansers in one, but that doesn't work as well for me. They're not really able to replace my oil-based cleanser, especially where removing stubborn makeup is concerned. It doesn't do the best job of removing makeup around my eyes. But this is a great second cleanser, and it can be used as a mask. I really feel like it does something to brighten the complexion and deeply cleanse without stripping the skin. They've been clinically proven to be effective with blackheads as well and removing fine dust and powder from the pores. What I would do sometimes is spot treat, put the cleanser on certain areas where I have more pores, and then after a few minutes add some water and just use it as a cleanser. It's kind of cool how you can use it as a cleanser and a clay mask."

"The green tea one does contain witch hazel which really helps to kind of tighten your pores. Witch hazel is an astringent so it helps to remove kind of additional residue, not the best if you have super dry and sensitive skin. That's the only thing. Otherwise I do feel like this cleanser, if you just use it a few times a week, I think it's something that's really fun to do if you want a deep cleanse. Otherwise it's one of those where it's nice and fun to have but not necessary. It's nice and fun to incorporate but not something that I would recommend using regularly into your skincare routine."

"I actually do like this cleanser, it's kind of an indie brand out of Korea which is exciting. It starts out with a really fun texture and it actually is a lovely cleanser, it feels more gentle than a lot of Korean cleansers which can feel very same-y to me. But I think it's a little in that overhype territory at the moment, it's a fun cleanser and that's why it's getting so much hype. It's a four star cleanser, it's fun, it is nice to use, it didn't change the way I do skincare. You only need a small amount mixed with water, so it's not too expensive if you use it correctly."

"The Arenia Fresh Green Rice Mochi Cleanser is my favorite cleanser in general of the year. [...] Arenia has used a traditional kneading process similar to how mochi is made, and that actually matters here because [...] it changes the way the cleanser works. It has this density to it that is kind of like very soft butter. It spreads slowly, cushions the skin because you can use this as a mask as well. So it needs to be able to sit nicely on the skin without drying you out, but also you need to be able to take a little bit of it, foam up, and use it as a normal cleanser. I feel like this mochi kneading process has done that perfectly. A lot of these other mask to cleanser cleansers this year have just been a little bit sticky and they don't sit on the skin properly."

"I left it on for five and then foamed it up and my skin felt so soft after not in the way that like a clay mask does, it just felt soft, it felt well moisturized and cared for and I carried on with my routine with no issue. I don't love the idea of every time I want to cleanse having to get a spatula and take a little bit out and use it, it's kind of annoying when like you could just have like a squeezy bottle, but the results that this gives, the very gentle soft cleanse that this gives, are kind of worth it. If you do want to try one, the Arencia one is perfect, it's very very nice."
BEST KOREAN SKINCARE OF 2025…so far 👀
"This green rice mochi cleanser from Arencia is my absolute favorite. It's a three-in-one product. It's got rice water, green tea, and witch hazel. So we get a really nice cleanse, calmness to the skin. It unclogs pores, helps with excess sebum, and hydrates the skin so you don't get that drying out that you get from a usual wash off mask. It's great if you have congested pores, blackheads, breakouts, and it can be used daily without irritating your skin. I absolutely love it. What I love about this product is the tiny tiny amount that you need in order for this product to be effective. It foams up so much from the smallest amount. You need a really light layer of it as a mask and it just does the job it needs to do perfectly."

"I have to start with Arencia's Fresh Green Rice Mochi Cleanser. I've been using this almost every day in 2025. It's like a cleanser meets a clay mask meets a gentle exfoliant, part of that cleansing pack trend resurfacing from K beauty. The green one, my favorite, has rice water, green tea and witch hazel [...] to cleanse and decongest the skin, and you're left feeling hydrated and not dry."
