What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise Aquaphor's moisturizing power and affordability, with many calling it effective for daily lip care and noting its convenient stick applicator. The split centers on intensity: some find it sufficiently hydrating, while others view it as too basic and prefer layering it under richer products. Concerns about using it under the eyes due to ingredient density and potential milia appear in some reviews, though this reflects off-label use rather than performance on lips itself.

"I really love and recommend Aquaphor Lip Repair. This is a fragrance-free formula, so even suitable for sensitive skin, that really helps to reduce dryness and chapped lips. Helps to kind of heal in moisture and is really designed for all skin types but particularly sensitive skin. I also love that petrolatum kind of leaves this really pretty shine to your lip. The formula includes nourishing vitamins, shea butter as well as chamomile essence to calm and hydrate the lip. So making it a great option for kind of a balm texture for daily use. And also it's very small, so you can easily put in your pocket, put in your bag, just take it out when you need and apply without your hands. That's the other benefit compared to Vaseline in that you don't have to use your hands. Just apply that product directly on your lip and you're all set."

"From a functionality standpoint it actually works incredibly well, the problem is it does have those potential allergies in it. Aquaphor is one of the most moisturizing products available on the market and because it has that petroleum base it's going to be incredibly reparative to the lips."

"I still love Aquaphor. I use that on myself and my kids and we'll keep an eye out for any sensitivities that we develop but right now we're good."

"Aquaphor has a ton of ingredients and one thing I learned when I worked in retail is things that are FDA approved for the lips are absolutely not FDA approved for eyes. FDA approved for eyes have to be stamped FDA approved for eyes and ophthalmologist tested, and so when you put lip products under the eyes you can get milia or a whole slew of problems. I mean these are so sensitive."

"I use the lip balm underneath the eyes and this makes your concealer stay 10 times longer it doesn't get all creased up and crazy believe it or not and it doesn't break down the makeup. The reason he uses this pro tip is because he works with models who need budge proof makeup that doesn't crease and who work long hours so he needed a look that lasted throughout the day that didn't have to be continually touched up. The concept of using the Aquaphor allows the makeup to be pliable throughout the day preventing creases."

"For me the Aquaphor lip balm experiment today was an epic fail. I don't like anything going on on this side of my face. The non-Aquaphor side just looks so much better overall, less heavy, less cakey, less settled in wrinkles. I have combo skin so I am oily through the T-zone but not super oily, and I have some dry patches around my mouth and my temples. I tried the Aquaphor concealer hack three days in a row, and I could just never get it to work no matter what I tried. I don't love it by itself with my regular stuff, I don't love it with this. I think my normal concealer setup is much, much better, looks nicer and smoother."

"Aquaphor Lip Repair, this was one I kept on my nightstand and sometimes in the middle of the night I put it on without realizing it and then I'd wake up and the cap would be off and it would be all gross. After it fell on the floor in the middle of the night I'm not going to put it back on."

"I have used this off and on throughout the years. As much as I love Aquaphor, this just didn't do enough on its own. It's okay if I put a thick moisturizer on underneath, but it still just kind of feels very basic and doesn't really do a lot. Because of the applicator, you basically can only use it on your lips. It's not terrible and has a good price point, but it is about as basic of a lip product as you can get."

"Aquaphor for the lips, because it's literally the best and rehydrates everything."

"I use the Aquaphor Lip Repair a lot and I really like this, it does the job well. I put a little layer at night time, a little layer in the morning, sometimes during the day if I feel like I don't want to use a tinted lip balm or like a lipstick I will use this and it does the job well. It's affordable, you can get this at the drugstore, you can use this all over the body, but it's amazing for the lips."
