Healing Ointment.

"Aquaphor Healing Ointment comes in at five to seven dollars. Both of these products contain petrolatum at a very high percentage, much higher percentage than what you're finding in other moisturizers. And this ingredient is a very, very good occlusive. It creates that temporary barrier. That's what holds your skin care in place, holds the moisture and the hydration deep within your skin, and resists the dehydration, the dryness, the tightness, and the irritation. And when you create that temporary barrier on your skin, you're really sealing your skin care. It's going to work for you better. It's going to stick with your skin longer, and it's going to translate to faster healing. You can apply it to the areas that feel the most dry, tight, and irritated. You can apply it all over your face. It can even work on your lips too, if your lips are feeling dry and irritated. You can even mix a bit of this into your moisturizing cream at nighttime."

"If you have the type of hands that really need the occlusivity, your skin is really dry and you really have to seal that lotion in, try adding a little squirt of Aquaphor or a petroleum-based ointment type of product. Petroleum is a very occlusive ingredient. This is all the rage when it comes to slugging because it seals everything in and helps to enhance skin glow. It's the same for your hands. The petroleum creates a barrier on your skin that helps to hug all that moisturizer in. But it also works as a two-way barrier. It keeps things in but it also helps to protect your skin from outside elements. If you're not in the best habit of wearing your gloves in cold weather outside, that can really dry out your skin and be very harsh on your skin. The petroleum acts as a protectant and can help protect your skin from being chapped by the wind and just the cold elements."

"It's really protective and this lasts on your lips so well while you're sleeping. It really nourishes them, moisturizes them, smooths and softens them. There is some fragrance in here, but I have not found this to be irritating for my lips. I find this to be really good and I find this to be better than the Cetaphil healing ointment and better than Vaseline. I like the formulation here because it's not just about the petrolatum, although there's a good amount and that is one of the most occlusive ingredients out there, it's one of the most protective. And this has a high amount because it's a healing ointment. And because it's so protective and because it's so occlusive, that's what helps it last on your lips while you're sleeping. But there's also some emollients in here and some hydrating ingredients that help to not only protect the lips while you're sleeping, but moisturize them, soften them, hydrate and plump them up. And you can get a giant tube that will last you all winter, if not into many more seasons after that for a fraction of the cost of what you're paying for a tinier amount for fancier lip sleeping masks."

"I'm just running a little bit of it just in that area, feel empowered you know to slug just in select areas. You don't have to put it all over your face if you don't want to. That just helps to seal in all that good hydration I put on before and make sure that that's not getting absorbed by my silk eye mask."

"I hug it all in with a thick layer of Aquaphor on my lips and that brings the soothing relief. If your lips are starting to get irritated, it will bring soothing, it will bring softening, and then Aquaphor protects. There's also some great emollient in Aquaphor that helps to soften and moisturize the skin. It's the only lip balm that I use outside of lip color. It's amazing for the lips, so don't forget you can slug your lips too."

"If there was only one product that you could get for eczema I would say it would be this one. It is so simple, it is so to the point, but sometimes that's what you need when your skin is flaring up. I think about Aquaphor in terms of hydrate, seal, and heal because that's exactly what it does. Petrolatum is the star ingredient, and Aquaphor is using 41% of petrolatum, which is probably the best occlusive that we have in skincare. It is something that is incredibly protective. It creates that sealed off environment, it helps to hydrate your skin, which is what you need in the context of an eczema flare up."

"I adore Aquaphor Healing Ointment. I use big scoops full of petrolatum ointment all over my feet, my ankles, my lower legs. It's really helpful for eczema down there for me. I get a lot of friction on my ankles that makes the skin there dark and discolored, and this helps with that. For my feet it's really great for cutting down on callouses and just helping my feet look smooth and hydrated for an aesthetic benefit."

"I like having this on hand to put on my hands, it's really a great product. Excellent if you are prone to chafing or irritation."

"Something like Aquaphor Healing Ointment and its generic less expensive versions are a great option. Apply a petroleum jelly ointment to the hands at night, which is really good because at night the hands are going to lose even more water, and it's a time where you should be unwinding and not doing as much so you can really have that greasy stuff on there and not be so annoying."

"Aquaphor healing ointment is fantastic. Aquaphor on the other hand, for example, does have lanoline in it which is a potential allergen, so low risk overall to use those other things but just keep that in mind that they could potentially be contributory."

"This is petroleum jelly. It's more occlusive than Aquaphor. When you get out of the shower, pat the soaking water off so there are just a few little beads of water and the skin is damp, and get yourself some petroleum jelly and smear it all on your skin and it kind of turns into this creamy type cream. I love using it that way."

"When it comes to the nails, using plain petroleum jelly or Aquaphor or other healing ointments if that's what you like and happen to be using, the nails can really help quite a bit because what it does is the same way it's helping with slugging on your face, it's helping to protect the skin around the nails, especially that proximal nail fold, and it helps keep the cuticle hydrated and healthy and ultimately improves barrier function at those sites. And the end result is really what you're doing is by better barrier function and by protecting the skin there, you are helping limit penetration of moisture like water and other things and potential microbes back up under that skin to have access to the germinative matrix, which is the area of the nail unit where you have these cells that are rapidly dividing to grow your nail plate."

"At night, what I suggest people do is get some petroleum jelly, Vaseline, or Aquaphor Healing Ointment, whatever your favorite ointment is. These are occlusive, they're really greasy, they're really thick. Apply these onto the hands at night after you get out of the shower or tub and then cover with cotton gloves, leave those cotton gloves on as long as you can tolerate. You can even sleep like this. It will really, really, really help to improve the integrity of the barrier and allow for rapid barrier recovery."

"Aquaphor is an excellent option and offers many of the same benefits that Vaseline petroleum jelly does as far as healing cuts, scrapes. It's great for dry chapped lips. You can put it around the eyelids. All of these things wonderful. But it does have other ingredients in it and some people become allergic to those making Aquaphor not a great option for them. But in general, it is good as well."

"Aquaphor Healing Ointment is a petroleum-based ointment with added humectants for hydration and barrier repair. It has a lightweight texture, absorbs easily without a sticky feel. It contains panthenol, which is B5, and glycerin to soothe and protect. One note: Aquaphor does contain lanoline or lanoline alcohol, which is a derivative of lanoline. While it's safe for most people, a small percentage of the population will have sensitivity or even allergy to lanoline. So if you're using something like this and you're having a reaction, it could be that you're sensitive to the lanoline."

"Aquaphor, I love a lot. It's a really great product. It does have nice things like the Shea butter, it has panthenol. But it does have lanolin wool alcohol, which this past year was named top allergen of the year. I don't see it often, lanolin allergies, but I guess it is on the rise, especially in my patients with atopic dermatitis. So if you're using Aquaphor and your rash is worsening and you're having stubborn eczema that you're dealing with, maybe switch over to Vaseline or CeraVe healing ointment. I still love Aquaphor a lot."

Add the Aquaphor and then you can double up on your red light therapy, whether you put that under your red light therapy mat or under your red light therapy mask, however you want to do it, it will speed the healing up."

"When I'm talking about post care, I always add a layer of Aquaphor and I will keep that layer on, and I mean thin, not a big goopy thing. A thin layer of Aquaphor, and when I keep that on, I don't rinse it off at night. I'll sleep with that on, and the next day all those little holes, everything is all closed up and good. I'll have like a few little marks but not bad."

"If you do deal with extra dry skin, consider sealing in that moisture with an ointment like Aquaphor Healing Ointment or Vaseline petroleum jelly, but I don't really recommend it if you are prone to acne."

"For those with normal to dry skin I would apply a more occlusive product, probably something with petrolatum. Cetaphil Healing Ointment or Aquaphor Healing Ointment are some of my favorites."

"I really like this one because number one it comes in a really big jar so it's really economical. It contains 41% petrolatum along with a mineral oil and panthenol which are great ingredients that help to seal in the moisture and is soothing. You can find this in different sizes so the big jar that you can just scoop out a little bit after bathing and put it on from head to toe, and you can find it in a smaller tube as well as a tiny size that you can keep in your pocket and in your purse. I find it to be a little too greasy to use in the summertime but certainly can be used all year round, or you can use it to spot treat areas of dryness like chapped elbows, dry fingertips, and chapped lips. It can even be helpful as a barrier cream, for example in the diaper area to reduce irritation or diaper dermatitis. The only thing to note is that it does contain lanoline, so if you have a history of allergic contact reactions you may want to be cautious."

"You can use a petrolatum based product so Vaseline or Aquaphor Healing Ointment, but something thick and greasy. What you're going to do is soak your hands and or feet in lukewarm water for about 5 minutes until they're kind of wrinkly and damp. The soaking helps to hydrate the skin and if your skin is really thick and crusty it may even help to remove some of that crust. Afterwards pat your skin dry and then literally immediately before it is completely dry lather on a really good layer of the petrolatum product all over your hands and feet."
