What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this ointment as an effective, fragrance-free barrier for dry skin and lips, especially in winter or cold climates. It's versatile for cuts, chafing, and around sensitive areas like eyes and nail folds. The main caveat is that lanoline and wax can trigger reactions in people with sensitivities, potentially worsening existing rashes. The greasy feel is noted as a minor drawback for daytime use.

"This is Aquafor Healing Ointment. This is a prolamine based ointment and I love this for my lips especially all year round but especially in winter. It is fragrance-free. It is occlusive but there are some emollient ingredients in here that offer moisturization as well. And so this is moisturizing, softening but also protective without any fragrances or some of the really fun ingredients but that can sometimes just not be beneficial if your lip area is really acting up."

"Aquafor healing ointment is an ointment that is majority petroleum jelly. It's inert and it's fantastic if you live in a cold, dry climate and you struggle with windburn, chapped skin. Wonderful for dry, cracked hands. Put it on and then cover your hands with cotton gloves and sit that way for at least an hour, if not overnight. It really can help with dry, cracked hands tremendously. Admittedly, these do feel a bit greasy on the skin. Maybe you're not comfortable with that."

"I'm getting the expensive Aquafor to my crusty feet because I'm not going to let a salicylic acid ointment go to waste when I know darn well it's going to shine quite literally because it's glossy and glossy on my feet. This is a nice kind of softening, smoothing, locking it all in. It's really going to lock it in place as opposed to rubbing off on the floor as I walk about and not getting back on my skin."

"Something like Aquafor Healing Ointment and its generic less expensive versions are a great option. Apply a petroleum jelly ointment to the hands at night, which is really good because at night the hands are going to lose even more water, and it's a time where you should be unwinding and not doing as much so you can really have that greasy stuff on there and not be so annoying."

*NEW* Skincare NOT TO MISS At TJMaxx This August 2025
"Aquafor Healing Ointment is less occlusive, more semi-occlusive in comparison to straight petrolatum, but it's got lanoline. It has visible wax in it as well. And those ingredients you might be allergic to. Some people are, in which case Aquafor Healing Ointment is not going to cut it for you. But Aquafor Healing Ointment can achieve the same benefits that plain petroleum jelly can. Great for cuts and scrapes. Great for dry chapped lips. Great for reducing chafing. Great for the eyelids. No, it can cause milia. Okay, milia or cysts that happen after some sort of trauma. Or they can happen spontaneously often in young children. And great for around the nail folds because they help cut down on moisture getting up under there leading to nail ridging. Great for the nail plate and also great for your hands, great for your feet. Put this on the body when you get out of the shower when the skin's still damp. You want to pat it dry so it's not like soaking wet, but take a glob of this and smear it on your leg, for example. It kind of works into a creamy almost thick cream as opposed to a straight up ointment, and it's a much different experience."

"You can use the Aqua for Healing Ointment, you know, whatever your preference is. Apply a thin layer to the area before you put the item on and it can help lessen some of that rubbing and that friction and that pressing in because it's creating a little bit of a barrier between your skin and the item. This will help to lessen some of the discoloration because it'll help to lessen some of the friction."

"I like Aqua for as a lip gloss. It's got a petroleum jelly base but then it's also got some great essential oils in there and it's great for slugging. It's very natural. I use it post laser resurfacing as well and it's actually pretty good for the lips."
