    What the gurus are saying

This hybrid mineral sunscreen impresses with its strong moisturizing quality, so much so that reviewers consider using it in place of their regular moisturizer. The elegant formula works well on both face and body alike. Both testers praised it as exactly the kind of sophisticated sunscreen the market has been needing, delighted that more refined and elegant options are finally emerging.

"I even loved their sunscreen quite a bit before they also discontin that one"

"This is made for acne prone and sensitive skin. Although again there's nothing in here that's actually going to fight breakouts, it contains zinc oxide which is the best sunscreen ingredient for preventing hyperpigmentation. The bottle says that this sunscreen is so moisturizing it perfectly complements acne treatments which can also sometimes be drying. While it doesn't sting or burn the eyes or the face, if you have a big open lesion and if you are super sensitive it might bite back a little tiny bit, but overall it's absolutely gorgeous, it keeps you protected and it does work with a lot of those prescription ingredients. This doesn't have that thick greasy lotiony feel that makes your skin feel like it's suffocating."

"This is an SPF 43 broad spectrum sunscreen and this is a mineral slash physical blend. This one has been phenomenal. I slather it all over my face and body. I like it a lot and I'm so glad it launched because we need more SPFs on the market, more elegant SPFs, and this was one of them."

"This one from Apostrophe is a hybrid sunscreen with a moisturizing texture. [...] It will moisturize your skin and it will protect your skin with an SPF 43. This is fragrance free, it's safe for sensitive skin and acne prone skin, it's hydrating. [...] It has zinc oxide in it, which is mineral, and then it has octanoate and octisalate in it. It's a really beautiful sunscreen that you can use for most skin types, but I like to show this one because it is super moisturizing as well, so you can put it onto your face and skip the moisturizer altogether."

"It's made for all skin types including acne-prone skin. It's a hybrid sunscreen which I always tend to love because you get a lot of true broad spectrum benefits from it but it doesn't leave you a white cast or it tends to not leave you a white cast. This one's really nice. It's got zinc oxide, octinoxate, and octocrylene in it. It also has just really nice nourishing ingredients in it, there's hyaluronic acid, there's lanolin, there's some panthenol, so it just feels really good. It's SPF 43, it's fragrance-free, so I feel like this is just an all-around home run sunscreen. It looks really nice and glowy on the skin too. For some people you can use it as your moisturizer slash your sunscreen so you can skip an entire step by using this, and it's only twenty-seven dollars."

"I just started using this, it's SPF 43, it's a hybrid sunscreen which I always like and I find it's very moisturizing. I'm just going to use this in place of my moisturizer."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
