What the gurus are saying

Gurus agree the serum delivers light surface hydration and a radiant finish, but split sharply on texture. One reviewer found it uncomfortably sticky with a lingering tacky residue that takes time to fade, rating it lower for that sensory issue alone. Another praised the goopy texture and noted a little goes a long way, calling it suitable for both morning and evening routines. Both acknowledge the modest price point as a strength.

"Rice brings that type of moisture and I think that's what you feel in the texture here because it is a hydrating gel texture but it has more of like a medium body to it, a little bit more of a medium weight on the skin. There is a hydration level here. I don't find this serum to be as hydrating as all the hyped up reviews make it out to be. I don't find it to be like deep, deep, deep hydrating or like really plumping to the skin. I think it's just some nice surface level hydration that you feel. The rice and the honey do round that out, bring a lot of balance to the skin, hug that light hydration in, soften the skin. It's sticky. The texture between your fingers, you kind of pull them apart and you get that like mozzarella cheese effect, that string effect. You do get some of that here. The absorbency rate is good but it's almost like it leaves a residue on top that starts to get really, really tacky and sticky, like your fingers start to stick to your skin as you're patting it in and as it's absorbed, and it takes a minute for that feeling to go away. It actually really kind of creates that film on top of your skin."

"All the hyped up reviews make it out to be, I don't find it to be like deep, deep, deep hydrating or like really plumping to the skin. I think it's just some nice surface level hydration that you feel, and when I say hydration I mean watery feeling. The rice and the honey do round that out, bring a lot of balance to the skin, hug that light hydration in, soften the skin. It's sticky. I couldn't believe how sticky this was. It reminds me a lot of a snail essence because when you get the texture between your fingers you kind of pull them apart, you get that mozzarella cheese effect, that string effect. You do get some of that here. But it absorbs in the skin and I feel like the absorbency rate is good, but it's almost like it leaves a residue on top that starts to get really, really tacky and sticky. Your fingers start to stick to your skin as you're patting it in and as it's absorbed, and it takes a minute for that feeling to go away. It actually really kind of creates that film on top of your skin. Anything you put on top of that, like your moisturizer or whatever your next skincare layer would be, the stickiness won't come through that. It will go away with your next layer. But I did find that quite unpleasant and kind of surprising because definitely not a sensory experience that I personally enjoy in my serums."

"I am personally rating this a six out of 10. I knocked a lot of points off for texture that may not be as important to you as it is to me."

"The Anua Rice Ceramide Hydrating Barrier Serum retails for about 16 bucks. In here we've got several rice extracts, we've got ceramides, we've got niacinamide, water, lotus, vitamin E, arbutin. This one's also got a really lovely texture to it, kind of a goopy texture which I like. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. I typically use this one in my evening routine because it kind of sets to a radiant finish, but you can certainly if you have drier skin use it in your morning routine. No fragrance, no scent. This whole line from them is really nice."
