What they liked

  • Disappears on skin with no white cast
  • Dewy finish, feels like a moisturizer to apply

What they flagged

  • Plant extracts may irritate sensitive skin

What the gurus are saying

The lightweight texture and lack of white cast stand out. The formula genuinely feels like a moisturizer or primer on skin, absorbing easily without residue, and reviewers call it dreamy to apply. However, the product contains multiple plant extracts, which have triggered irritation in some people, so anyone with sensitive skin may want to patch-test first.

"It's feeling lovely, moisturizing into the skin, you can literally wear this as a moisturizer, [...] but they really made a mistake, it really stinks. [...] That's a mistake because you do not want to go out into UV rays with this on the skin, because of the higher chances of irritation which can lead to hyperpigmentation in my skin of color family. Unfortunately, Heartleaf, this gets a four out of 10."

"This is one of those that I know I bought and used, and I don't remember much, which is never a good sign, [...] because [...] if I really enjoyed it I would have remembered it. [...] The formulation alone looks fine, heartleaf has so many benefits along with some of the other ingredients in it, but it's just not something I particularly remember enjoying or loving, nor would I feel it's justified to be recommended on my channel."

"This one goes to my S tier. It has a little green color, but whenever you apply it, it just disappears. It's a brand new sunscreen that's a lot lighter and easier to absorb than Round Lab and Beauty of Joseon. This new version of sunscreen is one I actually really prefer, so please try it out."

"This is one of my favorites, I think this is the best skincare product from Anua. It definitely contains heartleaf, which helps soothe your skin, and it soaks in immediately. It's full of moisture and not that oily, similar to the Beauty of Joseon fresh version, so if you have oily skin and live somewhere tropical you will like this. Anua did an amazing job with this one."

"It's 15 bucks for 1.7 ounces and it's a chemical sunscreen with Asian and Korean filters. It's fragrance-free. It doesn't use the sad sad American filters we have available. It's got some nice stuff. It also contains [Houttuynia] Cordata extract, grape extract, green tea. It looks really nice."
~Yay
"This is so dreamy to apply, it still gives a bit of a dewy look but it's very lightweight in the way it sits on the skin, [...] it feels just like applying a nice moisturizer or primer. [...] It works really well for me, but I did see some people saying they experienced some irritation from this, and this is just a consistent thing with Anua, they've added a lot of plant extracts and that's not going to work for every last person."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
