  • Requires scalp-free application due to silicone

What the gurus are saying

This essence earns praise for smoothing frizz and nourishing without weighing hair down, especially for coarse or textured hair, though the silicone content means it works best applied to ends rather than roots. The formula feels elegant and has a subtle earthy scent. However, experts split on whether the results justify the hype: while one found it genuinely transformative for daily conditioning, another felt the softness washes out once hair dries, making the thick, difficult-to-squeeze tube format feel like extra effort for temporary benefits.

"I love this hair essence from Anua, their Black Tea Nourishing Hair Essence. Anua is a beautiful hair care brand that just looks so luxury but does not have luxury prices. The formula is really made about eight different plant-based hair nourishing oils alongside double fermented black tea probiotics. It's really really beautiful, it's lightweight. It's got a little bit of silicone and I just happen to have the kind of hair that really does benefit from a little bit of silicone. It really does a lot to just smooth things out. My hair is coarse and frizzy, so it makes all the difference in the world. This feels less siliconey but just enough to make a little bit of a subtle difference. I feel like this really nourishes my hair. I only apply this on my ends and I apply this every day so I can nourish my hair every day and it doesn't build up or weigh my hair down at all. The formula though is just as elegant as the way it looks. The black tea almost has a bit of an earthy cologne scent to it. I love it so much and it's not overpowering or cloying either."

"I can't avoid it, it's always at the top of the rankings, but I don't know what they did, I totally don't understand the hype. One good thing is it's cheaper than Labo H, they even do buy one get one. It has silicone in it, so you actually have to put it on your hair, not on the scalp, so that's even a little more work. It's very thick, and it comes in a tube, so it's really hard to squeeze out. When you rinse it out your hair feels very soft and silky, but once it dries it just goes back to how your hair normally is."
