What the gurus are saying

This serum bundles prescription-strength actives like hydroquinone at 4 percent alongside kojic acid, azelaic acid, and resveratrol into one formula, making it a solid option for hormonal pigmentation and acne marks without heavy exfoliants. The texture is moisturising but can feel slightly sticky during the day, so it may work best as an evening treatment. Since each blend is customised by a dermatology provider, what you receive depends on your skin assessment.

"Agency also offers a customized dark spot formula. Remember we talked about level one, well what I call level one and level two dark spots. Level one is the dark spots that are fresh, like you've had them less than four months, those are easier to treat with things that you can buy at the drugstore, department store, specialty stores. Older dark spots however, those need a little bit of extra care. That's what I call level two. These are dark spots that you've had for a while, I'm talking like five months, six months, couple years. With those you're probably not going to get the results that you're looking for with something that you can buy over the counter. Typically you're going to need a little bit more, and that little bit more is only available by prescription. But just as I mentioned with Agency, you can do all of that without ever having to leave your house."

Anti-Aging Skincare Q&A! Your Skincare Questions Answered!
"I do use the future formula and the dark spot formula. I definitely wanted to add in the dark spot formula because I was starting to get a couple of dark spots and I always had some redness across my nose. If you're looking for a topical solution for your dark spots, hydroquinone is the gold standard for spot reduction for reducing discolorations in your skin. There's no reason to be afraid of using hydroquinone when you're using a service like Agency because they have taken all the guesswork out of it. The dark spot formula is used twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, and the combination of hydroquinone and tretinoin really is like the double whammy that can really take care of your dark spots and really can improve your skin."

"Something new that I added this year in the morning is the agency dark spot formula this is their dark spot formula which contains hydroquinone and I was getting like some dark spots up here on my forehead and so I wanted to try to use hydroquinone to fade them I like this it has faded my dark spot a bit."

"I have been using it like a month, a month and a half and I am already seeing a difference in this age spot on my head and now I feel like it's fading already. This actually contains four active ingredients that tackle dark spots. I only use this as a spot treatment. I pretty much put it up here on my forehead and on my cheeks and down my nose and a little bit on my chest and then some on the backs of my hands."
Best Anti-Aging + Skincare of 2021!
"I'm switching over from Curology to their sister company called Agency. The dark spot formula would contain hydroquinone plus three other active ingredients in a nice moisturizing base. I've been noticing I've been getting some dark spots coming out on my forehead. I wanted to try the combination of hydroquinone and tretinoin to see if it would fade them quickly. I'm about three weeks in on it so too early to tell. I will do a video on it later on and let you know how it's going."

"One of the best things that I've ever used for pigmentation is a blended serum that has basically all of the actives that help with hyperpigmentation in one and this one specifically doesn't have a lot of major exfoliants and this is perfect for any hormonal pigmentation that my skin personally has. This is from Agency, it's the Agency Custom Dark Spot Formula and this is custom blended to my skin so what's in mine might not be the same as someone else's but I love this. This specifically has hydroquinone at four percent which is prescription only, it has kojic acid, [azelaic] acid which can help with pigmentation but it's not an exfoliating acid the way that most people think of them, and this also has Resveratrol which is an antioxidant that is fantastic for your skin. This is a nice fluffy little moisturizer. I find that if I put this under my armpits it does kind of feel a little bit moist like a little bit sticky so I don't do this during the day but I'm happy to do this at night. This is also fantastic for acne marks. You can of course use this on the face that's what it's meant for but if you do have pigmentation in this area this blend for me is perfect."

🔥 ☀️ 😎My 100 Degree Weather Skincare Routine
"This is a custom blended formula that was prescribed to me by a nurse practitioner who looked at my skin online and assessed my issues. It's like grown up professional skincare. This dark spot formula is amazing because it is made for oily skin and the base that they put it in is not skin clogging and acne safe. It goes on nicely and suspends all of the ingredients without having them get gritty or gross. My ingredients are azelaic acid, kojic acid, resveratrol, and EGCG which is that green tea extract. I'm going to be putting it on my face twice daily and also on my burn. The best thing about this for me is that the formula is super non-oily. It doesn't mattify but it doesn't grease you up and it absorbs into skin with a nice cushiony feel. It just feels like nothing on your skin."
The ONLY Ingredients That Stop Hyperpigmentation (And Reverse It)
"I specifically use a dark spot serum from Agency, which is wonderful. This is prescription, and it also has kojic acid and azaleic acid. For my skin, this is custom blended to me, so it works perfectly for me because I do struggle with subclinical rosacea as well as acne and little pimples. What's great is that these ingredients, especially when blended together, can help with hyperpigmentation as well. As tyrosinase inhibitors, this formula and these basic ingredients stop that pigmentation from even being created. I absolutely love the dark spot treatment, and if you are in the USA, not only is this amazing but it's super inexpensive, and they actually let you speak with care providers who will look at your skin and if you're struggling with hyperpigmentation and something like acne like me, they will actually build and blend a product for you."
These 3 Products Will Take YEARS Off Your Face – The Science Behind How These Ingredients Work.
"My personal favorite Agency product that I've tried is this one. This dark spot formula has [azelaic] acid, kojic acid, resveratrol, and green tea EGCG, and I haven't found any brand that actually customizes and formulates this the same way."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
