★ Best product of the month
Bioactive Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer
The Inky List Bioactive Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer
My current favorite right now is by The Inky List their Bioactive Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer. I have absolutely loved using this product on my skin this past month because it has done such a good job nourishing my skin, but I've actually been able to use this and incorporate this into my morning routine because it is very nourishing but still lightweight. This is bioactive ceramide in it, so first of all you need just a little blueberry sized amount for the entire face. Bioactive ceramides are smaller length, smaller molecular weight, smaller chains basically so that they can absorb deeper into the layers of your skin for a more complete skin barrier repair. This also has glycerin in it which helps pull in hydration and nice emollients, shea butter which are going to give that nice seal of hydration in your skin. It also is going to blur your fine lines and wrinkles because of a cross polymer that is in there. It does a really really great job.
★ Best vitamin c serum under $20
Cream Vitamin C Serum
Vanac Cream Vitamin C Serum
This also has several types of vitamin C in it, the most concentrated one I think is the THD ascorbate, so it's an option if you're looking for a vitamin C serum that's not quite as expensive as the Peter Thomas Roth but with that form of vitamin C in it, which is actually hard to find. It's 5% THD ascorbate in this one.
★ Best vitamin c serum
Potent-C Power Serum
Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Serum
This one is one of the more expensive products I will recommend on my channel but it is unmatched and it is that good. This has 20% THD ascorbate in it, it has 3% vitamin E in it and 2% ferulic acid, so I consider this your THD swap of the Skinceuticals CE Ferulic. It also has a trifecta and it has a very transparent list of the exact percent of each of those three ingredients in it, which is incredible. It's so frustrating how hard that is to find in skincare where they actually disclose how much, what is the percentage of these, because we need to know so we can go up or down based on how our skin reacts. I love that about the Peter Thomas Roth formula. Overall a really soothing formula, very nice product, unmatched, totally worth the money if you are going to go hard into Vitamin C in your skincare routine and you really want the best benefits. 20% sounds like a lot if you're trying to compare 20% L-ascorbic acid to 20% THD, they're not the same because this has to undergo a conversion to get to this, so even though this is higher I don't think you are going to get the same level of irritation with 20% this versus 20% that.
★ Best hypochlorous acid spray
Hypochlorous Acid Spray
Prequel Hypochlorous Acid Spray
I love this one because it's packaged really well. It has a great pH, very simple ingredients, and it's not overpriced. It's just such a simple product. We don't need to be spending like $30 or more on hypochlorous acid. That's insane. It's like a one fix all type of product. It can help acne, rosacea, eczema, sensitive skin, can help fix or repair your skin barrier. It's great to use after the gym to cut down on bacteria on the skin. It's really, really great addition to any skincare routine.
★ Best cleanser
Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser
This is my favorite cleanser lately. I'm on like probably my 10th bottle of this. This has turned my double cleanse into a single cleanse. On days that I have on a full face of makeup, all I need is this. It takes off all of my makeup. I rinse it off. It does not leave any residue on my skin. I don't feel the need to follow this up with another cleanser.
★ Best under eye products for anti-aging and dark circles
Skin Renewing Vitamin C Eye Cream
CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Eye Cream
This has 5% L-ascorbic acid, which is pure active form L-ascorbic acid. You just need a teeny little bit of it and you dab it under the eyes. I love this one, it's super gentle. I am a very sensitive skin person and this has never irritated my under eyes or my skin at all. It also contains ceramide, so it's going to help strengthen the skin barrier in this delicate area.

I do not want you to buy a fancy scar cream, Maderma or vitamin E or anything super fancy because I think you are more likely to get an allergic reaction to this cream than any benefit you hope to be getting to fade your scar. So if you want to put something topical on your scar, which is a good idea, I recommend silicone gel or silicone gel sheets. These are far less likely to cause an allergic reaction on your skin and studies have actually shown that they can help improve the cosmetic appearance of your scar. So if you want to grab something topical to put on your scar to help it along the way, ditch the Maderma, ditch the fancy scar cream and just grab silicone gel instead.

The Olay Retinol 24 is not my first choice because retinol has to undergo two conversions to get to retinoic acid. Retinaldehyde has to only undergo one, so retinaldehyde is closer to prescription strength. Now retinol can still be effective and you'll get even less side effects with that, but it's not the strongest option.
The Budget Dermatologist: Skip vs gurus 71% Approved
Olay Retinol 24 Max, same thing retinol not retinaldehyde in that product. The reason I say this is not my first choice is because retinol has to undergo two conversions to get to retinoic acid if you remember the retinaldehyde has to only undergo one so this is closer to prescription strength. Retinol can still be effective and you'll get even less side effects with that but it's not the strongest option.

This one is 33.99 so it's kind of pricey for a vitamin C derivative that isn't my top pick.

"It's $10 and has 10% mandelic acid in it. It also has some polyhydroxy acids in it that can boost the mandelic acid's effect. Alantoin can soothe the skin in this formulation as well. So really a great swap here."

"I've been using this as a reset product at night and morning when I take time off from my actives. It's worked great. Less redness on my skin overall. Prequel is such a good skin care brand that have they pretty much never miss. I don't think I dislike any Prequel products."

"This is a heavy hitter if you are focused on dark spots and hyperpigmentation. One of the reasons I've been trying it and loving it is because the blend of vitamin C is better geared for sensitive skin, rosacea-prone skin, and redness-prone skin, which is me. Since I've been trying this product, I have not gotten any irritation, no increased redness, no burning or stinging throughout the day or with other skincare products, which can be so common when you're using pure ascorbic acid vitamin C serums. The three types of vitamin C in this are a 15% complex of ascorbic acid, 3-O-ethyl ascorbate, and THD ascorbate, so all of the great vitamin C's combined into 15%. I like that this is an airless pump, no dropper or bottle format, and there's a refill you can buy that will save you some money. It's not the cheapest vitamin C out there, but if you have really sensitive skin and you're just looking for a different type of formulation or different additives, something like this might be worth the extra money for you."

"Azelleic acid is extensively researched and has been shown to help treat conditions like acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation, all with very little risk of irritation. This serum from Anua is a great example of a well-formulated option. This is the one that I have used to help improve the redness of my rosacea prone skin. This has the highest percentage of azelleic acid that you can get over the counter."

"This is a 10% L-ascorbic acid plus vitamin E and ferulic acid serum, which are the same three trifecta ingredients that you will find in Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, but this one is way, way more affordable and in my opinion, in my experience, it is every bit as good as that one and you save over $100 on this one. Vitamin C serum is an absolutely crucial ingredient in a very well-rounded anti-aging routine. Putting a vitamin C under your sunscreen in the morning is going to supercharge your SPF results because vitamin C is an antioxidant. That means it will scavenge those free radicals that the sun creates on our skin, and those free radicals are what attack our collagen and break our collagen apart. So if you put a vitamin C serum under your sunscreen in the morning, you're going to supercharge your results and you're going to keep the collagen in your skin for longer. You are going to prevent it from breaking down from UV damage. It's going to scavenge those free radicals away. This one you can often find for 40, even 50% off, so that makes this around $13."

"This is one of my all-time favorite budget friendly swaps for that really expensive skin care product. This usually is $26 or $27, but last year I got this for 50% off. This is 10% vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid, which is right in that range of 10 to 15% that is effective. It also comes in a 20% version. This also has vitamin E and ferulic acid in it. Another thing I love about this that I think makes it even better is its packaging. It is an opaque closed container with a pump top. So this really takes care of the stability, protecting it from light and air. And this formula is just really simple and straightforward."

"10% is still a great dose to give you results and it actually even can decrease your side effects a little bit by bringing down the percentage of l-ascorbic acid. This one by Timeless is so so so affordable, I think baseline it's under $30 and then right now 40% off. I love the packaging of this, everything about this product is a 10 out of 10. If you don't need this unless you are like a rockstar vitamin C user, you are an advanced user, you've used it a long time, you don't have sensitive skin and you have like really stubborn dark spots or wrinkles."

"This is one of my favorite L ascorbic acid serums, which is way more affordable than the THD serum. This one by Timeless is the 10% vitamin C. You can get results with this. I strongly wholeheartedly believe you can get incredible vitamin C results from this just as much as you can from the $182 vitamin C serum. We don't need that. Their L ascorbic acid vitamin C E ferulic is amazing."
How To Pick a Budget Vitamin C Serum For YOUR Skin! | The Budget Derm Explains
"This next pick is by Timeless, their 10% vitamin C serum with L-ascorbic acid. This one also contains vitamin E and ferulic acid, so this is going to be my recommendation for somebody who really loves that skincare routine type of vitamin C serum that has those three in the trifecta to make it work the best: vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid. This contains the same trifecta but at a little bit lower percentage. This has 10% vitamin C instead of 15% that you find in similar products, and I kind of like that better because I don't even think more is better. You don't absolutely have to use a higher percentage to get more benefits; sometimes that just causes more side effects. So this is actually a really good budget swap. A little bit lower concentration at 10%, but overall this formula is very simple. There's not a lot of other additives in this, really simple, really straightforward formula at a good entry-level vitamin C at a really affordable price."
"I really find this one exceptionally moisturizing actually as well has hyaluronic acid in it. Ectoin actually I love ectoin and skin care products that help support the skin barrier and I find it nourishing and hydrating on the skin. So I just love that texture so much. It's $28. That's an incredible price for a vitamin C serum that is more in line with the price that you will find on L-ascorbic acid types of vitamin C serums. Both of these vitamin C serums get a thumbs up from me in terms of formulation and feel on the skin such that they are not irritating and they don't sting. That is one of my biggest complaints with L-ascorbic acid vitamin C serums is I get that stinging sensation on my skin very frequently with that type of product. Both of these very nice on the skin on sensitive skin. No stinging. This is closer to the L-ascorbic form. This is potentially a little bit more gentle and like I said this did get the eczema seal of approval. So if you have very very sensitive skin, you can't tolerate L-ascorbic acid forms of vitamin C serum, maybe it would be worth it to you to start here."

"Timeless vitamin C serum has elcorbic acid in it as their vitamin C. That's the active form. It's great, but it has to exist at a really low pH to remain stable. That means it very frequently will cause a stinging sensation on the skin. It's not as stable and it's harder to tolerate."

Do You Need a 12-Step Morning Skincare Routine? | The Budget Derm Explains
"This is a great example of a super budget friendly vitamin C serum that really works. It's very similar to the Skin Suiticles formulation, but this has 10% vitamin C in it instead of 15 like the Skin Suiticles. You don't need 15 to work. You need somewhere between 10 to 20. 10 is great for rosacea prone or sensitive skin. This also has vitamin E and ferulic acid, the trifecta to stabilize vitamin C and have it work the best."

"Timeless has L-ascorbic acid, the active form of vitamin C. This is going to get you your results the quickest, but you have to be careful with this because it has the highest risk for irritation."

"The 20% version by Timeless is the same product but with 20% L-ascorbic acid. I would say you don't need this unless you are like a rockstar vitamin C user, you are an advanced user, you've used it a long time, you don't have sensitive skin, and you have really stubborn dark spots or wrinkles. What's also really cool about Timeless is they have travel vitamin C in both the 10% and 20%, which is really awesome. If you're on the go, get these vitamin C packets. I also love this option if you are somebody who likes vitamin C in your routine but you do not use it every day, maybe you're only using this a few times a week and you want it to last longer. Once you open it, individual packages are great for that."

"Timeless vitamin C also with vitamin E and ferulic acid. I have used both of these serums over time and I can tell you that the $182 serum does not work any better than these well formulated and stabilized vitamin C serums. So if you are on a budget or even if you're not, do not overspend on a vitamin C serum. This is a budget favorite."

"I think this is every bit as good, if not better, literally better, than some of those super luxury neck viral products that people think you have to spend a lot of money on to get results. This formula and the texture is superior in my opinion. This has the best kind of peptides to actually firm skin that can really help early saggy neck or crepey skin texture. It has Matrixyl 3000, which is a blend of two peptides that are my favorite peptides. They are the most research studied to build new collagen in the skin, to restore your skin barrier, and be a really good addition to an anti-aging routine, especially on the neck because they do such a great job without the irritation that you can commonly get from retinoids like retinol on the neck."

My 2023 Skincare Product of the Year! | The Budget Dermatologist
"The Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic has 15% ascorbic acid in it, 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid, but it costs $182, it's one of the most expensive skincare products on the market. My personal experience with that product is that I could not tolerate it daily and sometimes I could only enjoy using it so sporadically that I was not able to get the full benefit."
"Drunk Elephant C-Firma Fresh Day Serum, their vitamin C serum is a really, really good, even suitable level good swap for skin suiticles. It's expensive. It's $80, but that's going to still save you over $100 if you were thinking about getting skin suiticles. You can get this one instead. Very similar: vitamin E, ferulic acid, low pH, 15% L-ascorbic acid. I use all of them, but I would say currently I've been doubling down on this option, and also with very sensitive skin, I find this just is soothing to my skin and does not overdo it and still gives me the results I'm looking for."

"Geek and Gorgeous C+ Glow is a really affordable one that you can get for right around $14, maybe under $15. Very simple formulation: 15% L-ascorbic acid, vitamin E, ferulic acid, and at a low pH. The thing I love about Geek and Gorgeous is they don't over complicate it. Their products are very simple, super minimal ingredients list, and very transparent about everything in their products, which makes it so easy for us as a consumer to make sure we are picking a product that will work. And another one of my favorite things about this brand and this product in particular is they're priced where they should be. They don't play marketing games and make a product like this cost $100. Okay, so this is literally $15."

"This is one of the best all-around vitamin C serums that has 15% L-ascorbic acid. It also has vitamin E, it has ferulic acid, it has a few other kind of botanical extracts that are soothing to the skin because vitamin C is very irritating on the skin because it's formulated at a low pH. You need that low pH, but it can be irritating on the skin. I like this formula because it's different enough it soothes the skin with some of the additives in it. This one is $33. I think it's a brand that really never goes on sale. I think you can get it less with bundles, but it's a really reasonable price for such a high quality product."

"This has 10% pure vitamin C serum. I really like this product. I'm loving this package because it is opaque so it will protect it against the light breakdown of it. It's an airtight container that also can protect it from air getting to it to break it down. The vitamin C ingredient is really obviously the hero ingredient here. The other supporting characters in this product would be ceramides, which is very classic of the CeraVe brand and I love especially for the under eye area because ceramides can really reinforce your skin barrier and help it stand up to these stronger actives like vitamin C or retinoids. This also has hyaluronic acid in it."

"This is one of the greatest products at the drugstore. I have been using this for years. It has 10% L-ascorbic acid in it. I recommend this for somebody who's ready to start a vitamin C serum, they've never tried it, they don't know if it's going to work for their skin, maybe they have a little bit of sensitive skin. This is such a great product to get your foot in the door and see if this vitamin C category is right for your skin. I love this one because this formulation has ceramides in it, so it's also nourishing to the skin. It can offset a little of that irritation that can come along with L-ascorbic acid. This is going to be my absolute number one top pick for beginners or people that are ready to kind of reset and try vitamin C for the first time."

Or if you have redness prone skin, because this has some added ingredients into it to reduce redness of the skin, which is such a problem for me, it's something I struggle with. So this is a really good option for wanting vitamin C benefits with sensitive skin, rosacea prone, redness skin. I love this option for that group of people."

"This one is one of the more expensive products I will recommend on my channel but it is unmatched and it is that good. 20% sounds like a lot if you're trying to compare 20% L-ascorbic acid to 20% THD, they're not the same because this has to undergo a conversion to get to this, so even though this is higher I don't think you are going to get the same level of irritation with 20% this versus 20% that."

"This luxury vitamin C serum, I actually love this, it was my 2023 product of the year because it's so amazing. It has 20% vitamin C in the THD ascorbate form, which is one of my favorite types of vitamin C because it's more stable and less irritating to the skin. It gets better penetration than L ascorbic acid types of vitamin C. And this also has vitamin E and ferulic acid in this product, which work together synergistically with the vitamin C to help it do its job better. This one is truly an amazing, unparalleled product."

"The best budget vitamin C serum of the year for me is this one by Vanac Cream vitamin C serum. If you have sensitive skin you are new to vitamin C, start here. You cannot go wrong."

BEST BUDGET Vitamin C Serum UNDER $20! | The Budget Dermatologist
"This is a quality budget option for your anti-aging skincare routine or your brightening skincare routine. You cannot beat the price of this product, which has a quality form of vitamin C in it. My top pick vitamin C serum under $20 is Vanac Cream Vitamin C Serum. I actually got this for $15. The reason that this is an amazing budget find is because it has Tetra hexyl decyl ascorbate, or THD, as the form of vitamin C, which is an expensive type of vitamin C to formulate and it's really hard to find in an affordable option. But buying this THD serum is worth it because the ingredient THD is actually in some people's opinion better than L-ascorbic acid forms of vitamin C serums. In comparison, THD is more stable than L-ascorbic acid, so your product will last longer before it's oxidized. It gets better penetration into the skin because it's lipid soluble, and it is way less irritating because it does not have to be as acidic as L-ascorbic acid."

"If you have never used any vitamin C at all before and you're not sure if you can tolerate this powerhouse product, it is totally okay to start low and go slow and then build up to this as tolerated. The fact that this has THD and they tell us the exact percentage that is in this product and it's priced extremely well is truly amazing, that is so hard to find. The overall formulation here is budget dermatologist approved because it is a simple formulation without a bunch of added ingredients to potentially bother your skin. This is a no-brainer for very sensitive skin people. It also contains five types of ceramides in it, this is going to strengthen and moisturize your skin barrier. Very simple, no fragrance, no essential oils, no dyes, no parabens. It has a milky consistency, very lightweight and it absorbs nearly instantly. I just use one to two pumps for the entire face and any of your skincare products will wear so nicely over this, even makeup, because this is truly so thin, so lightweight and it absorbs rapidly. It is weightless on the skin, no film, no tackiness, no residue left behind. You can easily apply the rest of your skincare routine products right over this, even makeup, without any issues."

30-Day Botox Hack Results! | $20 Anti-aging Hack | The Budget Dermatologist
"The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a budget option that contains argireline, which is a peptide said to target the appearance of static and dynamic wrinkles. It works by inhibiting the movement of facial muscles similar to how Botox works, but in a more non-invasive way. This ingredient is often used in anti-aging products because of its potential to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But it's important to note that while it may offer some of the benefits of Botox, the results are not going to be identical to the strength and longevity of the results you can get with Botox."

"This one by La Roche-Posay has 10% L-ascorbic acid in it, which is the active form, but the problem with that form for many people is it can be irritating and just be hard to tolerate. So if you have really sensitive skin or rosacea-prone skin or very dry skin, that's something to take into account. They do disclose how much is in it, 10%, and you want the vitamin C serum somewhere between 5 to 15%, so this is right there in the mix. Other key ingredients in this include salicylic acid, so it's also going to help exfoliate the skin at the same time. The packaging is in a dropper bottle format. For me personally, I don't love dropper bottle formats for vitamin C because you are going to be exposing it to air every time you open and close it, and that means it's going to break down and go bad more quickly. If you choose a vitamin C serum in a dropper bottle, you should be using this very often in your routine and using it up quickly. But if you are somebody who is only going to want to use your vitamin C a little bit more sparingly, you probably are going to want to find one that is packaged differently. This product costs $46.99."

"This is my favorite peptide serum of the Year from one of my favorite brands that makes affordable serums that are amazing for the skin. It's by May Love, it's Peptide Squad. The reason I love this is because it contains all four types of premium peptides that you need on your skin. First it contains Matrixyl 3000, which is my favorite type of peptide to build collagen in the skin. Then it contains copper peptides because once your body starts to try to build that collagen it needs copper to do that. The third thing it has is rice peptides so once you build that collagen the rice peptides are there to protect it and prevent it from breaking down as quickly. It's all natural, no dyes, no fragrance, and it has a nice thin, very dewy texture on the skin."

"The May Love Fade Away Brightening Serum is going to be for you if you have dark spots or hyperpigmentation that you want to address. I personally at one point really did not have any dark spots, so that wasn't a part of my personal routine, but I'm starting to get a couple, so this is going to really be something I lean on. This has kic acid, alpha arbutin, and licorice root extract, all things that can help lighten dark spots on the skin. You can use this morning and/or night in your routine. All of these are tested together and made to layer together, so if you want this in your routine and you still want to use a vitamin C serum, you can technically layer these. That is May Love's whole point: to make easy products to layer, so it's just quick, easy, and seamless in your routine."

"This has AHAs and BHAs -- alpha hydroxy acid like glycolic acid and BHA like salicylic acid. The BHA is going to help exfoliate your pores, and the AHA addresses the more superficial texture of your skin. What I love about this particular exfoliation product is it doesn't sting, tingle, or burn the skin like so many glycolic acid and exfoliants can. This is actually very comforting to use, which is so rare. I'll just do a dropper full, dab it into the face, a little bit on the neck, and that's it. I would do this about once a week depending on how your skin feels and your skin texture is."

"This is the one that I think is absolutely superior to peptide serums out there. It's the Medik8 Liquid Peptides Advanced because this has a whopping dose of peptides in. This has a 30% peptide complex. You cannot just go out there and get any peptide serum and think it's going to all do the same thing. You have to be super picky about your peptide serum that you are using a serum that has the right kind of peptides to do what you think it's going to be doing to your skin. This peptide serum, Liquid Peptides, has signal peptides in it, which are the peptides I look for. It's called Matrixel 3000. Derm’s REALISTIC Nighttime Anti-aging Skincare Routine
"This is a really super lightweight and nourishing serum. This is a standout peptide serum option for you because this contains 30% complex of peptides, which is a lot of peptides. And not just any type of peptides, it contains Matrixyl 3000, which is my favorite type of peptide from all of my research to build collagen in the skin. It contains acetyl hexapeptide 8, which targets the muscle similarly to the way Botox does. So acetyl hexapeptide 8, which I love because I don't get Botox so I love to incorporate that peptide in my routine, and copper peptides, which is another really great one for skin barrier repair and skin barrier health. This can easily be your treatment step on the nights you're taking a break from your retinoid, or you are just literally going to put a thick layer of this on the skin directly after you cleanse. I just rub this in until it's literally kind of white and pasty, go to bed, and I swear I'm obsessed with this. When you wake up, your skin feels so hydrated, repaired."

How To Apply A Retinoid To Your Face | The Budget Derm Explains!
"It's a top pick because it has ingredients in it that will strengthen your skin barrier, which is at a high risk to be compromised by the retinoid. Amazon Prime Day 2025 Skincare Must Haves! | The Budget Derm
"This is my number one recommendation when somebody asks me what moisturizer they should use at night if they are pairing it with their retinoid and they want to avoid irritation. I have used this for over five years, six years, maybe more since I first discovered it. And it is a long time holy grail. The reason why I recommend this above pretty much any other moisturizer when you ask me what to pair with a retinoid is because this does not have hyaluronic acid. If you're using a retinoid, those paired together, HA and the retinoid, can potentially increase your risk of irritation of a retinoid dermatitis. So if you are having issues with your retinoid, peeling, irritation, stinging, dry, red skin, try this with it and you might find that it works much better."
Apply Your Skincare In This Order! | Retinoid Skincare Routine
"The one I recommend for retinoid routines the most often, in my opinion, it works the best is the La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer. I love this one because it contains niacinamide which is also helpful for reducing inflammation on the skin and strengthening our skin barrier. But it does not have hyaluronic acid in it which is actually really hard to find a moisturizer that doesn't have that in it these days. But hyaluronic acid paired with a retinoid can theoretically pull it deeper into the skin and increase your risk of irritation. So I love this specific moisturizer to pair with retinoids."
"It's a Korean skincare one. It's so good. It has these little ceramide capsules in it that just melt into your skin when you rub it in. I love this one, especially paired with retinoids because it's a really good thick luxurious texture. This is one of my current new obsessions."

"Neosporin, or triple antibiotic ointment, is a product that I do not recommend and I'm constantly deinfluencing people from. The three main ingredients are Polymixin B, Neomycin, and Bacitracin. While people use it on minor wounds, scrapes, cuts, or procedures to prevent infection, there are several very common problems with this product. First of all, it is very highly likely to cause an allergic reaction on your skin called contact dermatitis. This is going to be very uncomfortable, it looks red, inflamed, itchy, burning, and can cause a new problem on top of the problem you are already initially trying to treat. The neomycin and other ingredients in it are common culprits of contact dermatitis that we see in our clinics. The other issue with triple antibiotic ointment is it can lead to antibiotic resistance."

"My number one product that I use to moisturize my body for years now and I have not found anything better honestly, I'm not even looking. This is the product by La Roche-Posay, the Triple Repair Moisturizing Cream, cream not the lotion form but the cream form of this product. Lotions are the thinnest, least hydrating. Creams are more thick and more hydrating. Then you have balms and ointments which are the heaviest. I usually go for a cream because it is the most user-friendly but gives the best hydration. This has ceramides, shea butter, glycerin, and niacinamide in it, so it is beautiful at repairing the body and then getting hydration in there and keeping it there. You cannot beat this product."

"My current favorite right now is by The Inky List their Bioactive Ceramide Repairing and Plumping Moisturizer. It does a really really great job."

Plumping Moisturizer! | The Budget Derm’s Product of the Month!
"If you want a plumping moisturizer that is very affordable, this one is $20. This is also for you if you want to repair your skin barrier and treat early signs of aging. This product is a standout product unlike most other barrier repair products because it is not heavy and greasy on the skin, which is why I can use this in the morning before work before I put on makeup. It really just delicately achieves the impossible, it is ultra nourishing yet it is absorbable and lightweight. This is one of the few skin barrier repair products that you can successfully wear under makeup without it peeling up or sliding off your face. The Inky List used the latest skincare technology to create these bioactive ceramides, which basically means that they have shorter molecular weights so that they absorb through the skin layers rather than just sitting on top of that outer layer of skin. That is how it works to repair the skin without being really heavy or greasy just on the top layer."

"It's a noncomedogenic product, which is non-acne forming. It does not pill under makeup for me. I love this for morning time as part of my morning skincare routine, and then I can put any other products or makeup over it. It's fine. It's for all skin types, definitely approved for sensitive skin. The formula is amazing. You can use this in your morning and nighttime skincare routine or even just one a day because it really does give you that 24-hour hydration. I use this as the last step in my skincare routine before I put on my SPF for the day. The price of this is $20, which is even less than some of my other favorite drugstore moisturizers, so this is extremely, extremely affordable."

"This Polish Choice Barrier Repair Advanced Moisturizer has ceramides and peptides in it so it's going to be very hydrating and repairing of the skin barrier. The difference I would say between this and a heavier alternative is that this Polish Choice one is just a little bit lighter on the skin. "If you want the best over-the-counter acne retinoid to treat and prevent active acne bumps, adapalene 0.1% gel is the one to buy. Adapalene is the form of retinoid that is an FDA approved medication proven to treat acne and it is the gold standard for over-the-counter treatments. This used to be available by prescription only but now you can get it over the counter at least in the United States. Adapalene is a topical derivative of vitamin A, which is the class of medications most effective at treating acne topically. This works to clear your skin in a few different ways. Number one, it clears out your pores."

"This gives you the benefits of a traditional ointment like protection and repair, but without the heavy greasy feel. What else makes this unique is that it doesn't have petrolatum in it like traditional ointments, but rather 40% glycerin, which helps provide up to 72 hours of moisture. As a dermatologist who treats a lot of patients with skin barrier damage and even conditions like eczema, I know that ointments are a mainstay of therapy, but I've seen that compliance from my patients can be so low because of that greasy feel. That's why I love and recommend the Skin Relief Healing Ointment. Instead of that feeling of it just sitting on top of your skin like most ointments, this actually felt like it absorbed in. And I find that my patients like this feel better. Therefore, they are more compliant and actually able to keep up with using it, so their skin stays moisturized. I recommend this product to fix dry, cracked, or chafed skin."

"The weekend glow daily brightening moisturizer is one of my favorite products from Verse, at least my top three. This is where we are truly bringing vitamin C into this routine without the sting from a serum. This has Tetra hexyl decyl ascorbate in it, which is a type of vitamin C that actually penetrates the skin very well. It has the least amount of irritation and stinging compared to the L ascorbic acid form, and you get really good results from this form of vitamin C. You do not need to feel like you need a separate vitamin C serum just to get results, you can actually just start with a moisturizer that has vitamin C in it and go from here. The consistency is a lightweight cream, so it's a little more than a gel but a little less than a heavy cream, so this is really great for day or night."

"The alternative that I actually want you to use potentially works better at preventing infection. It works better at healing your wound and it's cheaper. It's Vaseline or the generic petroleum jelly. Studies show that when you use just plain petroleum jelly or this occlusive ointment on top of your wound, you are going to prevent infection and you are going to help your wound heal plenty quickly without the added need of an antibiotic ointment on top of the skin. "I do not want you to buy a fancy scar cream, Maderma or vitamin E or anything super fancy because I think you are more likely to get an allergic reaction to this cream than any benefit you hope to be getting to fade your scar. So if you want to put something topical on your scar, which is a good idea, I recommend silicone gel or silicone gel sheets. These are far less likely to cause an allergic reaction on your skin and studies have actually shown that they can help improve the cosmetic appearance of your scar. So if you want to grab something topical to put on your scar to help it along the way, ditch the Maderma, ditch the fancy scar cream and just grab silicone gel instead."

"The third product I do not want you buying and putting on your skin is hydrogen peroxide. When people get wounds or cuts, they love to grab hydrogen peroxide because it's antiseptic and they want to put on the wound to prevent infection and to help it heal more quickly. But the problem is that hydrogen peroxide, although it is an antiseptic, it can help kill bacteria, but it's also cytotoxic to your skin. That means it can damage your own healthy skin cells, including your fibroblasts, which are one of the key cells for repairing wounds. In terms of daily wound care, day after day, you really want to avoid putting this on your wound time and time again because it is cytotoxic and it can be actually hurting your healthy tissue and your healthy skin cells, which is going to slow down your wound healing time."

"I use the one by Prequel. This is called the Universal Skin Solution Dermal Spray. This is a really great formulation at a great pH and a super affordable price, even better than many of the other popular ones out there. I just do a quick spritz over the surface of the skin. Hypochlorous acid is not just a great treatment for acne because it's antimicrobial and can kill that acne-causing bacteria, but it also reduces inflammation on your skin and can help rebuild the microbiome of your skin and strengthen your skin barrier, which are all very important things when you are putting a retinoid, which is irritating, on the skin."

"This is one of my all-time favorite budget swaps. I get so much good feedback from you guys that it gives you the glowiest look on your skin, and many people can tolerate this even sensitive skin people because of the other additives in it that really soothe the skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, it contains aloe to soothe the skin, some other natural antioxidants. At the end of the day vitamin C serum in the active L-ascorbic acid form can be a little irritating on the skin, so if you are rosacea prone or super super super sensitive you might not be able to tolerate this, but it's a great budget pick that gets such great reviews from you guys."

"Hypochlorous acid does not have to be expensive, it's actually a very simple product with very simple ingredients, literally one or two ingredients in it. Do not overspend on this product, but it can be so helpful in cutting down irritation around the eyes, like styes and blepharitis. It also is really good for the skin and can help if you have conditions like eczema, acne, or rosacea. It's just a really great product. You do have to be careful with this though, it's thought that this can actually inactivate some antioxidants, so when I apply this to my eye area I'm not putting any other active skincare ingredients on right away. "There are two main categories of eyelash serums: those that contain prostaglandins and those that do not contain prostaglandins, and all of the serious side effects, some of which are permanent and some of which are temporary, come from the lash serums that contain the prostaglandin ingredient. Latisse is prescription, and these work. I am not telling you not to use them; I am simply wanting you to know the risks here so you can weigh these pros and cons before you start using them. If you are considering an eyelash serum, you need to thoroughly evaluate the label to see if your product contains a prostaglandin. Often times, probably all of the time, this is actually not even clearly listed on the box or the packaging and instead it's only mentioned or hidden in the ingredients label of the packaging."

I think that this is very easy to use and it really is a great budget option to start to soften those resting wrinkles. This is not Botox, this is not going to as completely freeze those muscles and work as quickly as Botox. This takes a lot more time and consistency, and you are going to get most of the benefits and results at softening the static wrinkles, not the dynamic wrinkles. Botox really will help you for both static and dynamic, and this one is going to be mostly static wrinkles and a little bit of getting into softening those dynamic wrinkles like I started to experience towards the end of the 30 days. "I've been experimenting with patches that basically contain micro darts or these little needles in them. It sounds scary but it's really not, and let me tell you they don't play, they really work. These are the Cure Micro Infusion Targeted Patches. I am extremely focused on anti-aging around my eyes because this is the thinnest skin on your face and it is going to be the first area that shows signs of fine lines, crepy skin, wrinkles. I will put these on my skin at night and I wear them overnight. You only have to wear them two hours but I get the best results if I wear them overnight. I will do this on nights that I do not use my anti-aging serums or other products. I will cleanse my skin and then apply these directly to the skin. These have 80 little tiny tiny darts that are self-dissolving that aim to really soften fine lines and wrinkles. These are micro micro micro little darts that just slightly will penetrate the skin so it can deliver the infused ingredients in this patch deeper into your skin so they work better. These can be applied to crows feet, kind of under the eyes, to target dark circles."

"This is a tingle-free skincare acid solution that gives you the benefits of an acid without that stinging misery. This is really the first thing that you should grab if you ever feel like your complexion is just lackluster or dull, because you have an accumulation of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin that is trapping light. This is going to break up that layer and allow light to bounce off the skin so you have that glowy look. You just need a little bit of this. You can do it two ways: just one pump and you can pat it into your skin very gently, or if you have a little bit of extra roughness to your skin and you need a little bit more, I take a cotton round and one or two pumps and then just gently swipe along the skin. Do not overdo it, you do not have to be rough here. This is also a great addition to hyperpigmentation skincare routines or post-acne marks because this has a very nice blend of four acids in it."

"I did a ton of research on different hair growth devices and helmets and the technology used in them and I really like this one. It does take about three to six months to really get results. So far so good, it's been very easy to use. One of the things I like about this one is the power output of this device, it's very high. It also has 282 lasers and LEDs and it has a really great coverage to cover the whole scalp area because of the size and design of the helmet. This device uses these lasers and light technology to stimulate the hair follicle to grow hair and it is believed that this technology can increase blood flow to the hair follicle, so more blood means more oxygen and nutrients for the hair to grow. It might increase the production of growth factors around the hair follicle and decrease the inflammation there that can easily cause hair to shed."

"If you have redness-prone skin, rosacea-prone or an actual rosacea diagnosis, you have to check out the Prequel Redness Reform Sulfur Cleanser. Since I started using these, my skin has been so much less red than is average for me. The reason it works so well for rosacea-type skin is that it has sulfur, which is kind of one of those catch-all ingredients that can help a wide variety of skin conditions: acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis. It also has azelaic acid. Do not sleep on azelaic acid. It's such a good ingredient for the skin, especially for redness-prone skin, and that's why it's in here. There's also a soothing ingredient in there that's great for the skin. This is technically a cleanser, but I like to use it as a mask. I take a good amount, apply it all over my face in a thick layer, and let it sit for two to five minutes if I have enough patience, letting it work as a mask before I wash it off."

"This has 4% benzoyl peroxide in it. You can get benzoyl peroxide over the counter in strengths up to 10%, but the higher the strength the more potential it has to irritate your skin. I like to start low. 4% can get the job done and balance the side effects of that irritation. I specifically chose this cleanser by CeraVe because not only does it have that benzoyl peroxide, but it's in a really great formulation to decrease that risk of irritation. This also contains ceramides and niacinamide, which is another great ingredient that can address a couple of the causes of acne."

"This is great for anti-aging as well, it's more gentle and we don't know how much salicylic acid is in this. It is not aimed to treat acne so there is no active ingredient on this label and we don't know the exact percentage of salicylic acid in this, presumably it is less than 2%. If you have extraordinarily sensitive skin, rosacea prone skin, that type of thing, you might want to start with a more gentle salicylic acid cleanser like this one. If you're doing just fine with this then you can bump up to something stronger."

"A cleansing balm is really your secret weapon here to carefully remove makeup and waterproof sunscreen from your skin with a very gentle massage technique that helps it just lift right up off the skin without needing to use any harsh abrasive makeup wipes or eye makeup remover that can pull and tug the skin or just irritate the eyes and the skin. Cleansing balms specifically this one are very gentle on the skin, really nourishing and hydrating to our skin barrier all while doing the heaviest work of the entire cleansing method and getting this oil-based sticky makeup and skincare products out of the crevices of our skin and off our skin especially waterproof makeup."

"Step down to a more gentle form of retinoid that you can get over the counter without a prescription such as retinaldehyde or retinol. The beautiful thing about more gentle versions is that you can still get results on par with tretinoin, but with way less side effects. This is proven in multiple studies on this topic. Same results, less side effects, more enjoyable to use, no prescription required, no-brainer, and these can be very affordable. When you put these forms of retinoid on the skin, your skin actually converts these to retinoic acid, aka tretinoin. So you end up getting tretinoin on your skin, but at a way more tolerable dose. If you are suffering from a retinoid dermatitis from your tretinoin consider stepping down to one of these options."

"It contains retinaldehyde, which is the best type of retinoid you can get without a prescription to give you results the quickest, but with less irritation. This is a good product. I have used it. But this has fragrance. Fragrance doesn't always bother me in skincare, but this fragrance just bothers me a little bit after I use it for a while, so I tend to steer away from this. I don't use this on my face. I have some other more budget-friendly retinaldehyde options for the face that I think work just as well, and I don't necessarily feel like I have to splurge for this one. So it is not in my routine."

It's a mineral SPF with tint. I cannot tell you enough how important SPF is for your lips. It's one of the most neglected areas on our body and it gets the most sun exposure. If you love makeup like I do and you don't want like a white looking pasty sunscreen on your lips, you really should try a tinted lip product like this that has SPF in it. It's so nice. "This is my favorite tinted SPF. It's the matte version of their Universal tinted moisturizer SPF 46. What's amazing about this matte sunscreen is that it gives you this matte look without drying your skin out, which can really happen with some matte products. If you want a more soft velvety finish you're going to use the matte one. This is what I've been using the most this year. It does not dry your skin out. I tend to have a normal to dry skin type and this is so amazing for my skin. "This is a non-tinted chemical based sunscreen with zero white cast on the skin. The polyglutamic acid ingredient is the focus of this product and it's what really makes this unique. Polyglutamic acid you can think of it like a hyaluronic acid but it holds four times more water, so the focus of this sunscreen is really to hydrate the skin as it protects you from UV damage. Many sunscreens, especially zinc based sunscreens, are so drying on the skin, but you will find that that is not the case with this one because of that polyglutamic acid. It also has squalane and glycerin in it, so those three ingredients together really pack on dehydration in the skin. I really love this one for all skin types, dried, combination skin, even mature skin. It is really good. I have more dry skin type so this really helps with dehydration. The Inky List is so transparent with their ingredients, which I love. They always tell us the percentages that are in this product, which is so helpful when I'm judging products to determine if they're going to work for my skin type."

I am simply wanting you to know the risks here so you can weigh these pros and cons before you start using them. "Dermatology pumpkin enzyme mask is one of this brand's bestsellers, it's a viral skincare product. It has pumpkin in it but it also has ceramides which are going to replenish and maintain the hydration of your skin barrier. It has peptides in it which are good for building collagen and anti-aging and it has clay so that's really good to draw out the gunk from your pores and help them shrink down and look way more less noticeable. Inside it has these little orange beads that contain jojoba esters and vitamin E and they are so soft and pliable. They basically melt into your skin as you massage them in and this helps exfoliate but in a very gentle and soft way. They're not rough and gritty, it's not a hard texture, and they melt as you are applying this mask and they really can hydrate the skin. I use this mask at night after I do a gentle cleanse of my skin."

"This product has 5% L-ascorbic acid and a very transparent label showing exactly what is in it in terms of the type of vitamin C and the percentage, which is hard to find. I love the way it's packaged and I love the vehicle and the formulation that is in it, which is classic for CeraVe products, feels great under the skin. I can love this and recommend this for all skin types. I give this a 10 out of 10 for under eye products for anti-aging and dark circles under your eyes. If you are looking for a great budget pick under eye vitamin C eye product, it's this one."
"This is my 2024 product of the year, my very favorite product that I feel like has made the biggest gamechanging difference on my skin. It is this anti-aging eye cream by Medik8, it's called Crystal Retinal Camide Eye. This has retinaldehyde in it, which is the best anti-aging ingredient you can get over the counter but it's very gentle on the eyes. So it's made a lot of difference to my fine lines this year more than any eye cream I've ever used in the past. There are actually three versions of this anti-aging eye cream in three different strengths, a three, a six, and a ten, so you can start low and ladder up to get results as your skin adjusts to decrease your risk of side effects. It is a little bit of a splurge, but it's 30% off right now so it's the cheapest you can get this all year long."

"I found a peptide eye serum on a budget that I actually really like, this one by The Ordinary, the Multi-Peptide Eye Serum. It just comes in a little dropper bottle and it's a little bit viscous, so a little bit thicker of a serum, which is really good right under the eyes. My third ingredient that I recommend is a peptide like this one, really affordable. Between retinaldehyde, puchol, and peptides I would use them kind of in that order for anti-aging. If you cannot tolerate a retinaldehyde try puchol. If you can't tolerate that, try a peptide serum."

"Here is my recommendation of the best lip repair product. It is from The Inky List. It is called the Tripeptide Plumping Lip Balm. It is so so affordable and it basically has the same formula as this more expensive one by Pau's Choice. The difference here is this has a very nice metal applicator tip versus plastic, but the formula again very similar if not the same, and so this works incredible. The consistency is clear and it's just a nice little hydrating occlusive ointment. I recently met up with my sister for a sister's weekend and she was complaining about her dry cracked lips that she's had for years and that nothing can fix them. So I pulled this out of my cosmetic bag, let her try it for the few days that we were together, and then I let her keep it and take it home. I get a text message from her the day after she gets back home and she says, 'Oh my gosh, my lips are totally fixed. They are not dry and cracked anymore. This stuff is amazing.' So it really works and it's very affordable."

Supplements3 reviews
"I do not recommend this because of the potential harms from biotin supplementation. Laboratory test interference is the most important risk that you really need to understand. Biotin interferes with many common blood tests including thyroid function tests like TSH, T3 and T4. It can interfere with troponins which are used to diagnose heart attacks, hormone tests like parathyroid hormones, vitamin D and prolactin. It can interact with prostate specific antigen or your PSA test, brain natriuretic peptide or BNP used for a heart failure test. These interferences can cause falsely high or falsely low results potentially leading to misdiagnosis of thyroid disease. You might appear to have hyperthyroidism when you really don't or a misdiagnosis of a heart attack and incorrect treatment decisions. The FDA has even issued warnings about biotin interference with lab tests. Even at really low doses of supplementation, you can still have problems. The interference can last for several days after you stop taking biotin. Other considerations before you take a biotin supplement include the fact that they can be expensive and provide no proven benefit."

"This by Cure is a micro infusion system, kind of like micro needling or micro stamping. These are actually little teeny needles that you can stamp into the skin to help break through the stratum corneum and help infuse the serum that's in this vial into the skin. That's going to get you better penetration of the skincare ingredients and that can help build collagen more quickly and more robustly than just putting a topical on it. But you have to use these precisely and carefully."

"In order to treat this one, you need antifungals. This typically can be cleared up with a topical antifungal cream or even a shampoo that you are using as a face wash or a body wash such as Nizoral 1% shampoo that contains ketoconazole which is the active ingredient in it. That's the antifungal. This is available over the counter, but you can get it in prescription form in a higher concentration and that may be needed for more stubborn cases."
"Photobiomodulation is thought to promote the growth phase of hair and provide anti-inflammatory effects. Studies show that low-level light therapy increases hair density in patients with androgenetic alopecia. When choosing a device, look for one that is FDA cleared with appropriate wavelengths, typically 630 to 660 nanometers, for red light. Devices like this one from iRestore is a great option. "Tretinoin is one of the most studied ingredients in all of dermatology with decades of clinical data behind it. It's FDA approved for acne, but we also use it for anti-aging because it works at the cellular level. Tretinoin essentially does three main things for anti-aging. Number one, tretinoin speeds up skin cell turnover. Tretinoin tells your skin cells to turn over faster. So instead of dead, dull skin cells sitting on the surface, it helps your skin renew itself. This ultimately helps you with clogged pores, acne, and dullness."

"It's a nail conditioner called Derma Nail Conditioner, not a lacquer to harden the nail. The idea with this product is that you will apply this to the base of the nail where the cuticle is so that it is absorbed into the cuticle and matrix area where the nail grows from. This product is very simple, it's a clean formulation. It has mandelic acid in it which binds the corney cells in the nail to make your nail plate harder. So you can apply the Derma Nail Conditioner down at the base of the nail to promote new growth."
