BEST BEAUTY BUYS FOR THE HEIGHT OF SUMMER
"I absolutely love Rhode. I thought it's very interesting that a young person with relatively problem-free skin decided just to do barrier function of peptide products and I really love it. The Peptide Glazing Fluid I'm using most days now although I do love to layer on my peptides in the summer. I love the packaging, I love the idea that their barrier repair and their peptide base, and I just think she deserves to go from strength to strength."
"I use the 100% squalane to shave my legs with, shave under my arms with. I'm happy for the kids to use it. Biossance created hempsqualane, which is a squalane molecule which they derive from corn and then they basically feed the corn to the bacteria, the bacteria produce the squalane and then it's half the size so it goes into the skin more, hydrating, amazing."

"This is just a lovely product that people put on as exactly what it's called a fortifier and it does do a nice job of that. This is for someone who is a little raw, who is a little bit in need of extra support. It's a very nice product because it's a few different things, it's DNA repair, it's got some very nice hydrating things. This is not inexpensive, this runs over a hundred dollars, but it's half the fluid ounce and it lasts. It's a dermatology brand, and there's not a lot of dermatology brands I'm huge on, this is one of them. It's quite good."

"You can also use a peptide at night. This is the Medik8 Liquid Peptides, and I would happily put that all over my face before putting on a retinol. You can easily use peptides, which are signaling ingredients, and they basically signal for the skin to repair itself as you sleep. You can wear them during the day as well. I just want something to give my skin slip to put the retinol or retinaldehyde over the top."

"This is the brand new La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum and I love it. I know it's had mixed reviews actually but I really love it. It's a beautiful milky serum, very similar in texture to one of my other favorite ones. I would put this all over, like drench my skin in it, including my eyes, neck, chest, everything in preparation for a retinol or a retinaldehyde."

"It's just an absolute gold standard. I've just come back from the American Academy of Dermatology, most dermatologists love it, I love it. But I don't really like the texture of it, it's quite a rich cream. I love a serum though, and when they create it as a serum version, it was love at first sight. I have flown with it, I've used it since I've got back. I'm using it right up and around my eyes. It sits beautifully under makeup. It's flawless. It might just be my favorite hydrating serum of all time."

"Step two is non-negotiable for me: it has to be a vitamin C, and you'll not be surprised to know that I use the gold standard, which is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. I know, I know, it's expensive. This is 15% L-ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and vitamin E. A lot of people don't like the smell; I've just got over it. I've used it since it was launched, it's probably 12 years now. I swear it's one of the reasons my pigmentation and my sun damage isn't as bad as it is, but I get that it's expensive. It's a pure L-ascorbic acid, so it's the active form of vitamin C, meaning your skin doesn't have to work hard to access what it needs. It gives you an antioxidant boost, boosts collagen production, protects your skin from pollution, and boosts the effect of your SPF. It's just clinically proven. Dr. Sheldon Pinnell was the person who started SkinCeuticals and did all the research on topical vitamin C and skin, and it's a gold standard for that reason."

"The Allies of Skin vitamin C, slightly more expensive but I love it. It's a blend of L-ascorbic acid and other forms of vitamin C that have to be converted on the skin by your skin's enzymes naturally, so it takes slightly longer to deliver but actually makes it better for sensitive skin if skin's irritated by vitamin C."

"The Naturium Multi-Peptide Moisturizer is a beautiful texture. Everything I've put on my face so far has been watery super lightweight, so this I go in with and it's very hydrating, instantly plumps fine lines. It's quite cooling on the skin. For a lot of people that wouldn't be enough hydration, but I'm going to get a lot more hydration from my SPF. I love that."

"It's a pretty light cream, a little goes a long way. I would say it is lighter than C plus B5, also unfragranced and super hydrating. This is their hero product, SkinFix Barrier+, and it's gorgeous. If you're on a retinoid journey and you want something to buffer it out, this is perfect. I love the fact that it's in a pump action dosed little pot. Really nice range, I think well worth checking out."

"What's great about this product is that it doesn't sink into the wrinkles. It's got 1% hyaluronic acid in it. It's just a fantastic, really quick, easy to use foundation skincare product. I really rate this, it's major, it is brilliant. It's absolutely brilliant, it's such a good product. You can apply it the way you just apply skincare. You don't really need any skills, you don't need a brush, you don't need a sponge, you don't need a makeup artist. It's amazing. Using this little serum thing at night, it's perfect for me. It's easy, so that's perfect."

"The Ordinary also have a new moisturizer and I absolutely love the NMF. It's one of my go-to budget moisturizers, it's really lovely, super lightweight, goes in really easily, sinks into your skin in seconds, makes a great makeup base. There is now a Natural Moisturizing Factors and Beta Glucan, and beta glucan is a calming, soothing ingredient. In comparison to the original one, and I've been testing this for a few days, it is surprisingly a gel, and that will really shock you if you're used to the normal NMF. So it is super hydrating, goes on, slips over your skin beautifully, and I think is absolutely unique in texture. It's a jelly-like texture that is just so beautiful. This will suit summer skins so well. It's particularly suited to dehydrated, sensitive skin that don't necessarily want a heavy, oily occlusive moisturizer. It's just Heavenly. It will be the most perfect thing to take on holiday. It also sits under makeup, which is really rare for a gel. It doesn't pill, and I just think it's beautiful."

"I genuinely do love this moisturizer. It's Mineral 89, which is like their hero serum but in the cream form, so it goes on as a moisturizer. It's got niacinamide in it, a bit of squalene, lots of hydration. It's perfect for winter months or if you're just having a bit of a rough time through the winter where you just need a moisturizer, and maybe your sunscreen isn't moisturizing you enough. What I love about this moisturizer is you can use it morning and night, so you can sandwich it with a retinol."

"If you love The Crystal Retinol and I've been using it for quite a few years now I really love it, there is now a Crystal Retinol 24, obviously that's a play on the fact that it's 2024, but that is 0.24% retinaldehyde. Retinaldehyde as I've mentioned before is the next metabolic step, so retinol is metabolized to retinaldehyde, that then gets metabolized to retinoic acid which is the active form of vitamin A in the skin. This is the strongest one you can get in the UK."

"I like this around the eyes because it does not irritate your eyes, especially if a lot of people had really bad experiences with retinoids. Retinaldehyde is actually more potent than retinols but tends to be more gentle on the skin. I like this around the eyes because it's also got the ceramide so it's very kind of soothing. I've had problems with retinols but I've never had any problems with retinaldehydes."

"It's a perfectly formulated product in slightly imperfect packaging so you do need to squeeze it down to get the last of it out. Crystal Retinal 20 is the equivalent of a two percent retinaldehyde so we're talking basically 10 times the strength of that, 20 times the strength of that. You need to work up slowly, don't start on the 10 or the 20 like me because I've been using retinals and retinols for years work your way up go three six eight and then up basically."
"This is 0.2% retinal Emulsion and it's a retinoid and in my opinion it's the strongest and the best value for money retinoid that's currently available. Retinal is the next metabolic step on from retinol. Traditionally in skincare we had retinol esters, which your body then has to convert from a retinol ester to a retinol to a retinal to the active form of vitamin A in your skin called trans retinoic acid. Retinol esters are still available but retinol was a beauty buzz word probably about two or three years ago and then as you got used to working through retinol esters to retinol you wanted more, and that's where retinal comes in."

"What I want from an SPF that I use every single day is I want it to be super light, I want it to be almost like a watery serum. This is the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence. I've created lots of videos and I've written about this in The Times, but I don't think I've ever spoken to you guys on YouTube about it. Let me show you the texture. I will actually apply that to my chest as well, which is the one place I always forget to apply SPF. It's an SPF 50, they have an SPF 30 as well. It goes in so quickly, it's super light, lightly fragranced, without a doubt for me the perfect texture. Never forget the backs of your hands. Look at that, absolutely beautiful, sinks in in seconds, and it's so reasonably priced. It's exclusive to Superdrug, previously you had to go to specialist sites like YesStyle to get it. There's an SPF 32, I honestly can't tell that much difference in terms of texture, so for me I would always go for the SPF 50. It is slightly richer, by the way, than the original Japanese formula, still amazing. It comes from a company called Kao, that also owned John Frieda."

"A little goes a long way so make sure you apply enough of it to get the allotted SPF. Mildly citrusy fragrance but not offensive for me and it does dissipate really quickly. You will put this on during the day in place of your moisturizer and even your essence really and even your hyaluronic acid. I would put my vitamin C on and go straight in with this over the summer when you're really busy and you want to leave the house. The SPF 50 I think is perfection."
"The INKEY List have just gone into an SPF and I love this one, the Polyglutamic Dewy Sunscreen SPF 30. It's an SPF 30 so it's going to be an easier texture to formulate with. "Josh Rosebrook, this is a wonderful product and I'm telling you it's the smell. It's this very subtle spice in the best way, kind of like oh hello I can face the day. And it's hydrating. It's very much almost like a watery product, it just adds in a bunch of hydration."

"Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate the Mist is just so nice. It's very much almost like a watery product that just adds in a bunch of hydration. It's got that like cucumbery kind of business thing happening and it just makes me happy."

"The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist will give you the look of that dewy product which everybody under a certain age loves. If you're the person who wants that look, it will work. And it's sunscreen, so if you want to put it on for the shine, it will work all right."

"There's a new dual eye cream that's really exciting and interesting because it also takes away all the questions that I have, you know, when do I use this and when, like how do they pair, how do they marry, how does it work. So it takes care of a lot. It's convenient, the packaging is great, it's simple, you understand what it is that you are putting on your face. This fits in a purse. I use it when I'm working and when we do touch-ups. This is a product that's so friendly and helpful because it moves beautifully, it cleans up, it doesn't take everything away but it helps get everything sort of back in order and behaving. And it also has sunscreen."

"This is peptides and lash conditioning ingredients alone, so it's not like the first generation prostaglandin analogs which there's been a lot of backlash with because they can cause discoloration of the lashes and irritation and all that. I had zero irritation with them. A cosmetic chemist told me they're a tick box of great ingredients, which is why I'm testing it."

"It's so clever, it must be the juice. I have used it for about three days now. I've got two coats on today, not a single clog, pretty much unheard of, right? You have to go in, you know, maybe move lashes around, they stick together. It's so clever, absolutely brilliant. Last night I had supper with Monica and she said to me, 'You have lash extensions in, don't you?' I didn't. I just had L'Oreal Air Volume on."

"I do love the original Good Genes lactic acid by Sunday Riley. Lactic acid is particularly good if you've got a drier skin that needs resurfacing. I love it if you've got an older drier skin that's a perfect thing to resurface your skin."

"Laneige also gets a plug, also wonderful. They don't really call it a gel cream, they call it oddly a sleeping mask, which I get, have no idea what that means, but I can use a moisturizer and it's fantastic."

"Obviously I would not be allowed to speak in dermatologic circles if I didn't bring Aquaphor to the table. It really does do everything. Use it for your cuticles, use it for everything you want. If you have a baby and the baby has a rash, which one would hope, that's what goes on. Period, end of discussion."

"It looks like milk, it really does, and somehow as a spray it acts as basically also a primer. You do not need primer if you use this and it's incredible. It just leaves you really hydrated. I'm someone who in the course of the day on a dry day working indoors you can definitely see the edges of my skin if I'm wearing makeup, but it starts to dry. You can see it. Not with this. It just makes it all go bye-bye. Unbelievable. It's an amazing product."

"I absolutely love my Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. I love it because I've been through so much with this. Maximum wind minimum heat, which means it maximizes the drying power but minimizes the damage. I've never found a dryer lighter, more effective, more powerful than this. When you go to the hairdresser and they're drying your scalp and you think that's got a bit too close, that's burning my scalp, but imagine what that's doing to your hair. Even though your hair is dead, it does burn and is damaged by heat. Never had that feeling with this ever. Maximum wind minimum heat to dry your hair effectively, and it smooths as well. I just absolutely love this product. Dyson have mastered the cyclone technology of wind because obviously they do all the vacuum cleaners as well. It is expensive, but to me it is unique for hair gadgets on the market."

Tech1 review
"You basically use it on freshly cleansed skin. Most people use it at night just before they go to bed. You can see the pop in pop out eye protectors, so you actually don't get any infrared or any red light going near your eyes. It's really comfortable and comes in close contact with the skin. In 8 weeks, it's proven to reduce the signs of fine lines by 30%, increase plumpness by 57%. It boosts brightness. I think it's particularly good at reducing redness. It's a 10-minute treatment three to five times a week, but most people I know use it five to seven because they just love love love the results. You've got a 16-week money back guarantee and a 2-year warranty. It's FDA approved, cleared safe. It's a big investment at £399.99."

"It's red light only so you've got no risk of it irritating or flaring up melasma. It's a simple sequence of infrared and near infrared which are the two most proven anti-aging light wavelengths. But this is the important thing: it's the only one I know that's got a little bit that goes under the chin. I am now convinced that this is probably for my generation the best LED mask on the market. If your neck isn't actually that bad but you've got that little bit under there, this is the one. 10 minutes every single day."
