"During the winter months, if you're wearing makeup, especially longwear makeup around the eyes, I do recommend starting with a micellar water like this one by Bioderma. I think it's around $20. It's not really irritating, it's very gentle. I just use this around my eye area if I'm wearing some eyeliner or a long-lasting mascara."

"One of them is the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. This retails for like just under $20. It's great in the morning when you're just rinsing off the skincare you applied the night before, though it's not really great at removing makeup."

"The Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser is around $10. It's great in the morning, when you're just sort of rinsing off the skin care that you apply the night before. It's not really great at removing makeup, unfortunately."

"I recommend this one at night more because of its texture, it's definitely got a more oily consistency, so it doesn't layer quite as well in my morning routine. You also just want to be careful about this one if you're sensitive to essential oils because it does have lemon and linalool in it, but it's one of the least expensive vitamin C serums out there, it's only $48. If you like that sort of oily texture and you want something that's a little bit more on a budget, this is a great option."

"A Silk Pillowcase can be great for people who are prone to sleep lines or sleep creases you might notice when you wake up. Some people are prone to getting these lines, sometimes even in their decollete or on one side of their face, that seem to persist even for hours after you wake up, so using a Silk Pillowcase can definitely help with that. I like the brand Slip, that's an excellent option. They actually have some really impressive studies showing that it actually helps with the transfer of skincare products, so your skincare products that you use at night are staying on your face and not getting into the pillowcase."

"Beef tallow can disrupt the skin barrier. Some of that oleic acid in these products is bound up as triglycerides, so we're not sure exactly how much free oleic acid is being released onto the skin to do that damage, but I have seen some issues with my patients along the way. In general I'm not a huge fan of leave-on products with ingredients that are relatively high in oleic acid, and it's really about the ratio of linoleic acid to oleic acid, which isn't favorable with beef tallow. Another downside is that many beef tallow products I've seen on the market are also mixed with essential oils, and I have several patients with sensitive skin who react when they use leave-on products with essential oils. I've yet to see a beef tallow brand that's actually invested in clinical studies to prove safety."

Serums2 reviews
"It's a big investment for a lot of people, and ferulic acid is not going to be tolerated by every skin type. If you have sensitive skin, this may just not work for you. Also, if you are prone to breakouts, this may feel like it's a little bit heavy on the skin. My patients who are prone to acne, oily skin, combination skin, or breakouts don't love this formulation for their skin. But my patients who have very dry skin, very mature skin, and they're looking for a really clinically effective, the most stable form of ascorbic acid, the best studied ascorbic acid serum out there, and they can tolerate it, this is a winner. It's going to have a little bit of a hot dog smell, and that's because of the ferulic acid, which is kind of a necessary evil because ferulic acid is a key ingredient that really helps to stabilize that very unstable vitamin C called ascorbic acid. And this one I think is also $180 or $182."

"Next in the product roundup is the SkinBetter Science Alto Advanced Defense and Repair Serum. This one actually does not use ascorbic acid, it uses a vitamin C called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, or THD ascorbate. So if you can't tolerate ascorbic acid, or if you have very sensitive skin, you may love an antioxidant serum that has tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. It's a lipid loving, very stable form of vitamin C that I find is much better tolerated by my patients who have sensitive skin. Now they don't disclose exactly what percent of the THD they're using in the formulation, it's listed about 11th on the ingredient list, and it is underneath some other ingredients that are typically used at about a 1 to 2% concentration. But they're not just relying on the THD, it's actually a blend of different antioxidants, so it's a little bit less of a vitamin C specific serum and more of an antioxidant defense serum. I do love the packaging, I love that it comes in an airless pump, because it's preventing that process of oxidation, it's protecting that formulation over time. It's not the most sustainable pump, it has metallic accents, but I do really love that it's protecting the stability of that formulation over time. This one retails for, I want to say it's like $160, $165 for 30 mLs, so again it's on the pricey side, but it's an excellent option that many of my patients love."

Masks & Peels1 review
"This is obviously my Holy Grail, my go-to. If you have oily skin or acne prone skin, you might be able to use a product with just salicylic acid every single day. One of my favorite products for that is Paula's Choice 2% BHA."

Moisturizers1 review
"This one's called Cicaplast Baume B5. It's by La Roche-Posay. It's a lighter weight but still semi occlusive barrier layer that is going to go on top of your moisturizer. Spot treat only, but if you have to put it all over, you can, on those special nights you're feeling really really dry. What that's going to do is just add that extra protective layer to really help repair the skin barrier and seal in that moisture all night long. This one's made with an ingredient called dimethicone, which does tend to sit on the surface of the skin, so I wouldn't go in with this as your primary moisturizer, but I do like it as a sort of last final finishing layer."
