MA Mad About Skin Yay
“Adapalene sometimes goes by trade name Differin, but adapalene is the generic name, now available at a lower price in most countries. Whether you go for Differin or adapalene doesn't make a difference, it's the same ingredient, it'll deliver the same results. Differin is now available over the counter basically everywhere, so it's super easy to get, and is even more potent than retinol, which I love. Adapalene is particularly good for acne-prone skin, it's clinically proven to be the most effective at unclogging the pores, decreasing acne-causing bacteria, and preventing the clogs that trigger acne in the first place. In summer, where I am super acne-prone, I switch to adapalene because this delivers the best results for me, at least. If you're someone with acne or an active breakout, adapalene is the way forward.”

“Differin, which used to be a prescription retinoid but now is over-the-counter and widely available for you to purchase and start using on your skin, which is less intense than tretinoin and will definitely kind of accustom your skin to the strength of a prescription retinoid.”

“A retinoid, start with adapalene or Differin that you can get over the counter. Use it about every third night, and then increase as your skin tolerates it. This used to be prescription only, now it's over the counter, and it's one of the most evidence-backed anti-aging and acne-fighting ingredients that we have. This overall will cost you 15 to 20 dollars a month.”

“Consider a retinoid like adapalene, that's over the counter at 0.1%. It used to be prescription, but now it's over the counter in the US and that's my favorite retinoid for clogged pores. [...] You can find it as Differin.”

“I think people are going to be most familiar with the brand name Differin, but Lar Ro Poose has a version of this as well. [Adapalene] is going to help regulate your cell turnover, so it's going to help clear out your clogged pores. It's also anti-inflammatory.”

“I still think the number one anti-acne leave on treatment that's available over the counter is going to be adapalene and you're going to find this differin in La Roche Posay products but this is going to be your heavy hitter”

“Adapalene is really optimized for acne treatment it is stable to benzoyl peroxide and the particle size in differin is specifically made so that it ends up going into hair follicles which is where the pimples live”

SB Dr Sam Bunting Mixed
“Differin, which is adapalene, is available over the counter in the US but on prescription in the UK. It's [...] a synthetic retinoid developed to be less irritating and more targeted in tackling acne than the gold standard, tretinoin. It hones in [...] on the receptors where congestion and comedone formation are the root cause of acne, but it doesn't have so much of an impact on fibroblast function, so it's less useful for anti-aging. It's great for acne though, and it improves tolerability.”

“My dermatologist has me on a regimen with Differin. In my opinion, Differin is [...] not a bad cleanser. I believe it does work, especially for a lot of acne-prone clients. I'm okay with Differin. If I did not agree with it, I have no problem with letting my clients know what I agree with and what I don't agree with.”

“Differin used to be a prescription until a few years ago and is now available over the counter. Do not use this if you are pregnant. It is a synthetic retinoid also known as adapalene, and it is the cousin version of tretinoin.”

CB Cassandra Bankson Yay
“While you used to have to get adapalene as a prescription, you can now get this over the counter, which makes it much easier because you don't have to figure out the complicated timing of mixing it with other ingredients like benzoyl peroxide. It's a cruelty-free version of adapalene that you can normally get for around eleven to fifteen dollars on Amazon, and you can also get this at some pharmacies such as CVS.”

D Dr Dray Yay
“Over-the-counter Differin, which you don't need a prescription for here in the states, likewise can help in clearing up these little bumps, because retinoids help normalize skin cell turnover and help normalize that little follicle and the overlying skin, helping to clear out the bump faster.”

H HotandFlashy Yay
“You can get it at the drugstore in the form of Differin. Differin started off much like tretinoin as an acne medication, but then they also noticed that it had anti-aging properties as well. This isn't as well studied as tretinoin, there is some newer research on it saying that it does have anti-aging properties and is particularly good at fading discolorations, but it can be drying even though it is supposed to be less irritating than tretinoin.”

TB The Budget Dermatologist Yay
“If you have acne or acne prone skin, I love to recommend adapalene such as Differin. It's a retinoid which we know has anti-aging effects as well and it has amazing acne fighting benefits. This does not have to undergo the conversion to retinoic acid like the other retinoids, so this is in a different category. This is a prescription strength medication available over the counter here in the U.S.”
